In 1963, Milford N. "Bud" Shankland, owner of Shankland Saxon Corp., filed for a patent for an arrow rest, which was granted in 1965. That rest was known as the Para-Rest and was made from a modified mascara or eyebrow brush.

It was a popular rest that was durable, easy to install and worked well.

When Shankland Saxon closed the doors in 1971, Hugh Rich bought the remaining inventory, stamping dies and raw materials. Apparently, the Saxon name that was stamped on the leather plate was not part of the deal and rests made by Hugh Rich Archery were plain.

It was Hugh's favorite raised rest. A version of the plain one is still being sold by a few companies, but I don't know who makes it.

The rest on the right was not originally made by Shankland Saxon, as it was a Hugh Rich modification he named the Mark IV. It has a hole for a plunger and longer bristles.

As far as attaching the rest to your bow, clean the side plate with something that won't leave an oily residue, like lighter fluid, 99% isopropyl alcohol or an alcohol wipe. Most of the time the glue on the double sided tape is still good. If not, it can usually be reactivated with a few drops of lighter fluid or isopropyl alcohol. If that fails, don't try to remove the tape as you will only make a mess. Ask me how I know that! Instead use contact cement. I've had excellent results with Pliobond.

If you're interested, get your name in the hat. I'll draw a winner on Tuesday, 9/24 at 6PM West Coast time.

This is for all four rests.

Thank you, I'm in. These rests bring back memories. I use to shoot in Bud's indoor range in Kenosha, Wi. in the late 60s.
