I recently purchased a 1984 MA Black Widow and it came with two foam 3/4 to an 1 in. high silencer type pieces on it. Maybe 3 1/2 inches from the tips of the bow so that the string lays on them to kind of work as a brush guard silencer. I know they were bought and put on. Took them off because I had a Widow like this years ago and it was a quiet bow back then. Well this bow makes kind of a clicking noise. Tried a different string, brace heights. What is the difference between B-50 and B-55 and can either be used on this type of bow? Also does 14 or 15 strand string make a difference? Thanks

B55 is an updated dacron material, it will be fine. Clicking on the draw or shot is often due to surface contact at the limb to riser interface. Completely cleaning these surfaces of all residue often helps OR sometimes a light film of silicone grease helps, or a layer of moleskin. Be sure to NOT overtighten the limb bolts. Also clicks on the shot can be from residual string buzz right where the string leaves the limbs at rest. The foam rubber attachments you mentioned are stiktamers. For that bow I would try some dense navajo wool silencers or well tied golf ball sized cat whiskers and a brace of around 8" and see how it tunes, 10gpp arrow. Contact Allen at Tenringstrings.com for a high quality B55 string.

Often the clicking can come from arrows that are too stiff, or nock point too low... or only using one nock point when shooting three under. Any of the above issues will cause the arrow to hit the bow instead of clearing the bow... and yes, I have seen a perfect bare shaft tune with arrows that were contacting the bow on the way by.

If the clicking occurs when drawing, try cleaning the excess wax from the string wraps and the string grooves.

Please check the rubber o rings on the locator pins. They need to be replaced when they flatten out--perhaps every 18-24 months. My Widows develop a 'click' or mild popping noise when the o rings are worn out. So I take the limbs off, scrub the mating surfaces on the riser and the limb butt, reapply a good grade of wax or silicone plumbers lube to the mating surfaces and replace the o rings.

I had a 1984 BW MA2 that I purchased new. There were no o-rings on the locator pins. I ran mine at a BH of 8 1/2" with cat whiskers and it was plenty quiet.
