I made up a 15 strand flemish string of D97 and .025 Polygrip serving made the most perfect fit for my Classic Nocks. Now I've made a 14 strand D97 for a lighter bow and .032 Powergrip serving is too fat, but .030 Halo produces too loose a nock fit on the 14-strand string. Weird (it is the white Halo that winds on transparent - maybe it stretches more than Powergrip?). Anyone have a suggestion on what serving material will work best for me here on the 14-strand string?

Keep in mind ,030 serving adds .060 to the size of your string. So find a serving that is about ,026 or .027.

I'm not a stickler for a pretty string. The largest serving that I keep is .021 Diamondback. It yields a loose nock fit on a 14 strand string. One wrap of dental floss makes a perfect fit. I soak the floss with Loctite 420 in that little section where the nock fits. It works well and saves me from buying several sizes of serving material.

I'm not so sure removing one strand of D97 requires a different serving. I'm betting you can use the .025" again.

I've made my strings with D97 for several years. 14 strands and I use #4 Nylon serving (.021).

The easiest thing to do so that you always know what serving to use is go to a department store and buy a few cheap rolls of monofilament in the most common diameters related to the serving you use. When you build a string, just serve a couple of inches of it with what you think is the right size. If it's too big, step down. If the nocks aren't tight enough, go up a size.

Or stick an extra 4" piece of D97 to the part of the string you are serving, with wax. - lbg

What PEARL DRUMS said. 0.025 you won't see any difference. You'd have to drop to a 10-12 strand for the 0.030. DANNY

Thanks gang. I've been doing what longbow guy says with my B50 strings... padding 14 strands to 15 strands at nock point area. Same technique would work well here with D97. Last night I served a 20 strand Fury with the .032 Powergrip and - wow, what a string! Gonna try tonight with a 20 strand BCY-X / .032 Powergrip. I think the 20 strand BCY-X & Fury with the .032 Powergrip is gonna be great for my Classic Nocks. But I guesss both materials are soon to be discontinued :(

Bcy X is discontinued but replaced by X99. Use 22 strands instead of 20 BCY X.

20 strand BCY X, you will only need 0.024 or 0.025 serving for a good fit for your Classic nocks, unless you want a Really tight fit. DANNY

Right on Danny! 20 strand BCY-X and .025 Polygrip gives me a perfect fir for my Classic Nocks, nocking above the nock point on my ASL. Low enough brace and whisper quiet. Thank you also for the suggestion on X99. I really like the 20 strand Fury w/ .032 Powergrip, but that requires a second nock point to keep arrow from sliding up string. So I have some great recipes for my 50# bow. Would like to try less strands for 45# bow. Maybe I'll forgo the D97 and try 18 strands of X w/ the .032 Powergrip. Thank you all for the great info and suggestions. Maybe I should start a thread for favorite string recipes - if there hasn't been one already. Steve

Do you notice any difference in performance between BCY-X and X99?

It sure aint cheap :(

I believe the spool of .030 Halo I have is mislabeled. It is way thinner than .030. 1buckurout - what nocks are you using w/ 14 strands D97 & #4 serving? Thanks again.

Bohning Signature nocks.

I get excellent with the 14 strands of D97 and 14 strands of B50 with #4. With 8190 I use 22 strands.

Seems like D97 is same diameter as B50 and can use same formulas? Is there much of a performance gain?

From: 1buckurout

On the bows I've checked, it appears to be a 3 to 7 fps increase with D97 over the B50. I've seen some folks say 10 to 12, but I haven't seen that on the bows I've checked.

For Classic Nocks?

Teflon Tape wrapped around the string or laid length ways you can add to make a perfect fit. I use Crown and Halo.
