Have a "66 1/2" 60# Sentman "Carbon Deluxe" #68120..."Black Bird"...anybody know its history ? Bought long ago from somebody on LW (sorry I've forgotten who).

Fast, of course...thinking about some aluminums tho full length #600 Entradas are OK with heavy field points...

I would think 60lb. would need a a stiffer arrow and more mass weight for the bows sake.

Some time ago Gary posted that he didn't have a record of his bows...or of some of his bows...I read that somebody else built "Sentmans" for a while but that seems bogus.

#600 isn't "way too light" even for chart-worshipers with a 27" draw and 66 1/2". Charts ain't worth their weight in digits.

I've shot this bow a bunch over the years. 450+ string, always.

That is not bogus---Gary had a couple of brothers making Sentman longbows years ago. Perhaps Gary can tell you more of the details himself, but he had others making bows under his name (the Little brothers?)

Kent.. what were those other bows like?

If the bow, arrow combo works for you then have at it. I just can’t fathom 600 spine arrows with 60lb dw though.

Mark, if you know something about Sentman LBs, please share.

Gary Sentman had Lee Robinson building bows styled after/or similar to his [The Protege] and later on Edward Boyd [Trinity Bows] , this info I got from Gary long ago.

I don’t know much about Sentman bows, except what I read on this site. I also say if it works, then it’s ok.

I wasn’t trying to tell you it won’t work for you. I’m not like that. I was just saying that I could never get that combo to work for me, out of any bow.

I have owned numerous longbows made by Gary over the years from way back. If it were me I would try 2018, 2117 and 2216’s. If I wanted a heavy arrow I would try 2020’s to see how they fly.

I don’t believe Lee ever made Longbows for Gary. Lee made a couple different designs from scratch and sent them to Gary for his personal evaluation and suggestions.

Thanks Eldon.....do you happen to have serial #s or know when Sentmans started to use carbon?

Mark, the same combo works from my 40# ILF curve and my 53# neo- Fazio LB...dropping down to #700 Entradas is nfg past 30 yds.

Craig, #600 Entrada shafts with brass inserts weigh 316gm. Add 100gm for field point: 416gm .

Another factor...I've just begun aiming down the shaft which shortens my draw to (maybe) 26" ... that stiffens my effective spine... 60# Sentman has far more than enough zip to give a little away for 3D (sometimes 40 yds).

I have no idea how this combo would work with BHs.

Jk,I sent you a personal message. Let me know if you don’t get it.

I have spoken to Gary and he will accept emails and sometimes phone calls. Lee from KISA (Keep It Simple Archery) was mentored by Gary for a bit and helped with Lee's new line of bows back then he called Protoge' Longbows.

Yes, as Caboo said...Lee did not make bows for Gary's line of bows....he got input and ideas from Gary and made his own line based on some of Garys work. He also made a bow that he gave Gary to shoot and give feedback for his mentoring him. Lee changed name of his company during time with Gary to Protoge' Longbows. Gary returned it as it was too sensitive for him but thought the workmanship was flawless...but he developed bad habits from shooting too heavy of bows over years as he admitted.

He was spending a lot of time in Arizona and only going up to Montana for hunting some back then.

I think last I spoke with him was in 2013. He had stopped making bows for a while and then was easing back into them at smaller scale. He discontinued using the ICON name for his bows and was only offering two bows....his Sentman Longbow and then the Sentman Elite. The Elite was an evolution of what used to be his Icon with some changes he incorporated.

he told me the Icon and evolutions of it fit a more static style of shooting...more like the olympic shooter with more mass in riser and heavy deflex. His classic longbow he did not think should be shorter than 66" which is a semi-english style. He gave me lots of info on his design and thoughts....

Told me the back set reflex on the Eilite was was maximized for speed of arrow and quiet when shot. His standard bow was 3 lam with glass inlays and riser and belly lam continuing up over fade outs. He thought that version of his bows was the best he could make with no improvements forseen.

Good Luck

keep em sharp,

Ron Herman
