Opening day of Deer season here today. I've got my bow here in the office with me so I can cut out a couple of hours early and hit the woods for the afternoon swelter. Forecast was calling for a "cold" front to hit today, with the temps "only" in the upper 80's or low 90's. LOL. They actually were calling for some rain. I wouldn't mind an afternoon shower to cool things off before I climb my tree.

I'm a sissy when it comes to really hot weather hunting. I'm glad ours doesn't start until October. Good luck with your adventure...being in the woods is a great thing.

I go because, well, it's deer season, but it wouldn't break my heart to back the season up a month. On the other hand, it won't be much cooler in mid September either.

Same here Richard. In TX. we generally start around Oct 1st give or take a day or so. Jim mentions above that the opener this year is on 9-29. Sometimes it is just plain miserably hot but I still go. I pretty much hunt out of tripods during early season just to get a little exposure to some breeze.

Well no bucks but I did see a couple of does. I didn't end up hunting the spot I planned on. I slipped in there early but the trail I planned on watching only showed a set of doe and fawn tracks. I think it rained there a couple of days ago, so not much sign. Plus, there wasn't a great wind. It was lazier than checking a trail cam. Lol
I decided it was too hot to climb a tree, so I grabbed my PacSeat instead. I slipped into another area and spotted a couple of does already there, so I slipped back out and ended up hunting this spot. My friend that used to own this land always called this the "Flat Pond". Five + years off drought produced a dense stand of little pines. Five years of standing water killed the little pines and produced what you see here. LOTS of hog sign around here two weeks ago. Anyway, I really just eased around the right edge, into the wind, and glassed everything. Didn't end up seeing anything in there, but it was an enjoyable evening.

The Ga small game season opened yesterday. I’m loading up after work and heading off to some public land in hopes of crossing paths with a pig. I got my Tree Sharks shaving sharp. They’ll do their part if I do mine.

No pigs today, but I did have a couple of good encounters with deer. I stalked to within bow range of one and had three more come by me in range as well. I found plenty of pig sign but they were elsewhere today.

Pop up evening thunder showers have had the deer out feeding in the peanut fields here in south GA.
Our season starts September 14. I’ve hunted a lot of mornings in previous bow seasons thanks to thermocell but it’s hard to keep still when the sweat is rolling.

It’s hot out on the water too. Especially when there’s no cloud cover. But be it hunting or fishing, when you kids want to go, you “push” through it. :-)
You have to be there when they turn on to bring home supper. ;-)

Yep - Hot. SueDogs pic sums it up.
When I got to my first spot to look things over, I was leaning against a tree for a while and I heard this very faint metallic ringing sound. I couldn't figure it out. I looked all around for 10 minutes or so before I finally saw a tiny bit of movement 10 yards away. I slowly lifted my binoculars and zoomed in on this tiny spot of sun light on the sandy forest floor. When I finally got focused, I couldn't believe what I saw.
There were three fire ants in the shade holding what looked like a cotter key into the sunlight. They held the tip of that cotter key in the sunlight for 30 seconds or so, and then they pulled it back to the shade where three more ants started pounding on the red hot tip with what looked like big (for ants) hammers. I don't know! At that point I was getting a little light headed, and sweat was running in my eyes pretty bad, so I could have been seeing things. Regardless, I got a little nervous and decided to go look at a different spot.
