Hello everyone, I am looking at a recurve that has a 13.5" riser. The bows amo is 60". I am used to shooting bows with a longer riser length and don't know the advantages or disadvantages to this short riser. My draw length is between 28.5 and 29" Any insight re: this riser and limb combination would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mark

A 60-inch recurve should handle your 29-inch draw length OK. In fact, a short riser and longer limbs will accommodate it better than a longer riser and shorter limbs, all other things (length) being equal.
Keep in mind though that the sight window is likely very small with a riser that short. If you shoot with the bow held vertically, the riser may blot out the target at full draw.

Orion hit it. It will be smoother to draw.
But you may have an issie with the sight window and the overall bow weight will be significantly lighter. If you like a heavier bow weight for stability you likely won't get it from that short of a riser.

Wow! awesome answers, that's exactly what I was looking for. I did think the bow would be lighter and possibly smoother but I did not take into account for the shorter sight window. However I do shoot with my bow canted.
Thanks a lot guys.

It's all about string angle. Longer bows shoot better than shorter bows. I have a 29 inch draw and wouldn't consider a bow under 64 maybe 62, but that's just me.

If you shoot the bow canted the sight window length will mean little to you. I have shot longbows (really small sight window), long sight window Recurves, and short sight window Recurves I see little difference with my shooting style. That is the key, your shooting style, and where you anchor. As mentioned the shorter riser and longer limbs will make it feel smoother to draw. If the bow you are looking at is the Black Hunter or similar I think you will be pleasantly surprised. DANNY

My draw is similar to yours... as said above, it depends on the application. I recently bought a Samick Discovery, which is a 17” riser, med limbs for a total of 60” and I absolutely love it for a hunting bow, which I shoot canted.
I also just bought a target bow, which is a 25” riser, med limbs for a 68” bow, which will be shot vertically. All about the application.

The length of the riser in the opening post is very out of proportion for a 60" recurve. That's why I asked if it is a takedown. If so, then the length of the fadeout wedges that extend past the handle/riser also count as riser length as well. Particularly when it comes to considering working limb length.

It was a take down. I asked the question to late and lost out on the sale. I do appreciate everyone's responses, I learned a lot and if I see another one just like it, it might be mine. Thank you all again, good shooting.

I have always just bought bows to see how they shoot. Sell them if they are not right for me.

I'm with camodave, it takes me about 10,000 arrows to figure a bow out. And then what I don't likea
