How do you store your MinWax Poly rub on. What do you do to keep it from getting thick? I’ve been thinning it with mineral spirits with mixed results. It’s been a really hot and humid summer here.

It will last quite awhile tightly capped like many months.

I don't know I keep using it all up.>>>>------> Ken

Spray Co2 into the can and seal it. Co2 is heavier than the surrounding air so it will block oxygen. Your most common co2 source is canned air for cleaning out your keyboard.

I transfer it to a smaller container so that there is less air space. About two years is the limit for me to use up a quart of it.

I just buy a new van every year and throw the old one out.

Mind telling me where you throw those old, one year old vans out? :)

I buy smaller cans of miniwax.

I have kept it closed, but it starts to thicken up and turn yellow. It doesn’t “lay down” like it is supposed to. Like I said before, I have tried mineral spirits with varying results. Is there something better.

I have used 91% isopropyl alcohol before. Not sure that you are supposed to do that, but it worked. When it gets thick, it is great for filler to get the wood pores loaded up. Let it cure good and hard, sand it, then put some fresh product on top. I have never bothered to buy the wipe on. I just cut the regular stuff with a little mineral spirits if it doesn't want to lay down thin enough.

Frank, email the Min-wax folks and ask them. They are very helpful when it comes to answering questions about their products.
