Although carbon seems to be how arrows have gone I want at least some aluminum in my arrows.

My go to arrows are all Full Metal Jackets, even with my wheel bow.

People tend to shoot what they start with for the most part. The past twenty couple years has been a carbon era; guys coming from compounds to recurves and longbows tend to gravitate toward them since that is mostly what they used prior. Yes, aluminum will bend from time to time, but carbons will shatter, so in my opinion, it's a wash. Wood will always be around.

You guys that have been here a while, and paid attention, know that guys were ringing the death knell of aluminum over ten years ago, but alas they are still here and still viable and have an audience. Usually what goes around comes around so I wouldn't expect aluminum, carbon or wood to be gone or replaced....at least in my lifetime, and likely all will still be used for a long time. At least as long as there are archers to shoot them.

Except for the 2117 size aluminum's being only 31 1/2" long!!! Sorry, kind of ticked about that.

It is nice to have choices. >>>>-----> Ken

Exactly Ken, and limited choices is still choices.

I bought a dozen 2219 Super Slams from eBay a while back, a perfect match for the ones I got in the early 90s.

John, you can still find new old stock 2117 gamegetters that are 32.5”...I just sold some to a fella in Texas.

Yeah, the full metal jacket are nice arrows...ACC’s are also another good Aluminum/carbon arrow.

I'm surprised I don't see more FMJ shafts in the traditional circles. They weigh up, they are zippy and they are tough. Perhaps the price spooks people away.

I still use them and buy them. When I was having troubles bareshafting carbons for my low weight bow I switched to aluminum and things are fine agian. It’s nice having options. I still have a stash of AO 1816 for my real old age. I used to watch for sales when Easton brought out a new color camo and old stock were on clearance. You know those plastic storage boxes for under the bed, I have one with nothing but aluminum shafts.

I had heard they bend easily, i have no experience with FMJ's but curious what others think?

From: UpNorth Compton's Traditional Bowhunters

I shot FMJs for a couple years and Grizbow is correct. They bend more easily than one would think. I've found the Axis shafts, both regular and the Traditional series, to be tougher.

I like the full metal jackets but I don't like the price tag. I've fought the carbons for years trying get them tuned where they will shoot out of more than one bow. A few weeks ago I grabbed some 2018s and found that they will shoot out of nearly every bow on the shooter rack and have better flight than the carbons. So, I bought some more in Autumn Orange and I'm getting set up to go hunt in a couple of months. I don't know why I waited so long considering all of the frustration caused by finicky carbon shafts.

I have some 6mm, Autumn Orange FMJ’s for my Dorado and I really like them. I shoot those and some Easton 2018’s. This was at 30 yards this evening with the FMJ’s.

I just switched back to the pop cans from carbon. Shot aluminum. Wood then carbon then now back to luminum. I like they are half the price of the Easton axis I was shooting and are heavier and won't blow up in my hand. (Saw that hapoen)

For years, mid 80's to early 90's, I used the ACC a lot. Then I went to the Beman shafts pultruded that broke and splintered all the time. Then Easton made the ACH, aluminum carbon hunter. For a while, Beman made some carbon wrapped aluminums. But the ACC was always found near me, my go to shaft for many years.

Broke a pultruded Beman once in a 3d target. Must have hit a point that was left in there.

FMJ can be brittle but the one in the pic has lived a hard life for a few years and still ticking. Blew it right through a steel garbage can once with that Small Game Thumper.

The Rooty fletch job is also still ticking. He is the master of fletching tape.

Yes, I have seen some of the old 2117's on Ebay, but only a few. I would like to use something that I can get without hoping someone has old stock. I can make the new 2217's work but my broadhead bumps into the front of my riser and just don't feel warm and fuzzy about that. I like the thought of going to wood and may next year. So that leaves me with carbon which I ordered 6 from Big Jim to try out.

I recycle Aluminum arrows with inserts, points and nocks, ready for fletching. Must have 500+ shafts. Not much of a market for them around here. Carbon seems to be king. I am sure most will go to the aluminum recycler one day. The ones I do sell are the small diameter shafts but when ya get to 20xx and above a slow go. Can't wait for those fat 23xx,24xx, and 25xx to come back for something. :))

I've been buying 2018 and 2117 GGII, Orange and Camo hunters when I find some nice ones on the Flee.
