I have a Bear Super kodiak 35# at 28. My draw is 28 and I peeked under the arrow plate its 34# at 28. What carbon arrow should I use? I have a Gold tip 1535/600/ 7.8 gpi and 29 to back of point with 125fp and it shoots to the right or stiff. I have a Gold tip Ultra light thats 7.4 and 29 to bop which is 125fp and shoots good but every once and a while I get a barrel roll. I was wondering if I should get the 7.6 Gold tip or Cut another 1/2 off the Ultra [7.4] to stiff it up some more?

How long do you want the arrows?

Personally I'd look at Nig Jims Dark Timber shafts in .800 spine if I were shooting 28" BOP arrows and 125gr. points.

About 28.5 to 29. The shorter would be for hunting head clearance.

Always look to form first when you get inconsistent flight. It took me about 10 years to perfect my form.

If you are right handed and the arrows shoot to the right, then the arrows are too weak not too stiff. SD

Try 700's. Or try 145 or even 175 grain heads on what you have on hand. I've about given up on 125's with carbons.

This - are you a southpaw?

I shoot the 700 spine Dark timbers from Big Jim. 29" 75 grain brass insert with a 145 grain tip out of a 35# galaxy longbow with very good results. (28" draw) TB

with a 28" draw I would think a 600 would work with a variety of point wte.

Thank you for your responses. I spent the morning at our club shooting. At first two arrows 7.4 and 7.8. I haven't shot with a glove in a long time so a little learning. I found that the 1535/600 in 7.8 is the arrow. Good arrow flight and quiet. I was only shooting one arrow 1535/600. Once I settled down with the glove everything went as it should.

I would try some 700 or 800 spine gold tip warriors cut to 29 “ 3 rivers has a spine calculator that will get you close then experiment with tip weight till you get the arrow flight you want

By shooting right being stiff, you are shooting left handed ? If you are shooting righthanded its weak. I never cut my shafts. If itis stiff leave full length and add point weight untill it straightens up. Lots of things effect this, string material, nock tightness on string, nock height too hi or low, brace height( usually too low),shelf side plate too thick or then. Hard to diagnose without being there to watch.

I would think you would do better with an 800 spine. If an arrow is too stiff, the only recourse you have is to hang a ton of weight on the front and that won't always do it.

However if an arrow is too weak, you can cut it, or move the side plate out on your bow to accomodate or both.

Always take the overall weight of your arrow in to consideration so as to be shooting at least 8 grains of arrow weight per lb of actual shot weight.

Just so happens that we now have some 800 Dark Timbers in stock again.

Thanks, BigJim

At 34 pounds it would be difficult to get arrows too light (mass) for your setup since even a 6gpi would get you to near 9 gpp, if using 125 grain tips.

Spine comes first, and at 34# @ 28" draw, you aren't getting a terrible amount of force to bend a carbon arrow. You would likely be better suited to have an 800 spine for your setup. I would honestly say that most new archers nearly always get arrows that are too stiff when dealing with carbons, then they have to load down the tips or let them long, rather than thinking through the process ahead of time.
