I built this bow last year. It is 50 lbs.at 26 and 3/4 inch draw.Built with horn tip over lays, and a 10 strand FF D97 string. It shoots a 450gr, carbon arrow at 156 fps average of 6 shots. It draws smooth, and bare shafts very good.I can,t shoot more than 6 arrows at a time since Father Time has caught up with me but I like the bow.

No need to apologize for the lack of the computer skills - I'm closing on 64 and have to ask my wife for help frequently as she uses one daily! My question is this: is Sinew really worth the time and effort? I've never tried it and wonder if the time and preparation result in a better bow? How does it compare to your other bows either with or without some kind of backing?
That is a Nice piece of work no doubt - Great bow.
I've just always wondered about the benefits of Sinew?

Thanks Jawge. barebo2 their are many different opinions on selfbow vs sinew backed bows, so I will give you mine, but it is not written in stone. On short bows sinew will enable you to get more draw length thus more poundage and, speed. These are bows from 36 to 56 inches long.Beyond that I will normally not sinew back them.I have never had a sinew backed bow break from the back, but I have had a large amount of selfbows blow on me in the past. Moisture can be a problem with sinew backing sapping power from them as they take on moisture. If you have never made a sinew backed bow you owe it to yourself to try at least one. They draw smooth, shoot nice , and are very durable.JMPO> Jawge may also have an opinion, and others.

I like it. I especially like the red wrap up top, and the leather wrapped grip.

great pics...and still a beauty of a bow. Why not just drop a few pounds off it so that you can enjoy it more? I have done that to more than one selfbow of mine... what's the green backing?

MSyles thanks. That turned out Ok, but what made me happiest was the bow,s speed, and smoothness of draw.

Thanks BowAholic. In recent years I have done that to Many of my bows. This one will go to my youngest son now ,and it will get a lot of use.The green backing is poly cloth material I got off of ebay.I also picked up some Copper head print. It,s not real snake skin ,but does Ok.

Thank you fdp. You know first hand what work is involved to make self, and backed bows. highplains it was necessary to flip the tips on this one to minimize string follow so that is the profile I ended up with.

Nice bow Bassman. I haven't tried a sinew backed bow yet. I do have a stick in mind though. The greeen backing looks nice. I was guessing fish skins. Haven't tried any of those faux backings yet. Bjrogg

Thanks Bjrogg. With your compact draw I think sinew would be great for you with a bow maybe 48 to 50 inches long.Ed Scott referred to sinew as "magical stuff"so if you have a stave in mind, and enough sinew at hand go for it. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Ironfist, I have never had the chance to try Hop Hornbeam. I can,t find it here in Western Pa, but American Hornbeam is easy to find in the area were I live. Most guys on Primitive Archer say Hop Hornbeam has the edge when comparing the two.
