I hadn't shot my Bear TD for a week, and deer season opens on September 15th. After checking out Saturn and Jupiter, I put away my telescope and grabbed my bow. I shot one arrow at 10 yards, one at 15 yards and one at 17 yards. Not only did they just about touch each other, but all three hit the spot I was aiming at. I hadn't even warmed up. Why bother practicing? I never miss with this bow. I've never had a flier! I might as well put the bow away until September 15th and observe the sky instead of practicing. Any deer that walks by me is dead.

nice shooting Joe. Glad to see you can shoot something besides " Da Bull!! " HAHA!
The fact is the first shot always has to count. Even after sitting or stalking without shooting for three or four hours or more.
I have the same experience when I pick up a bow after a long period of not shooting. The first shot is the money-maker, it has to be good and it usually is.
That's where practicing for years to develop good form and repeatable accuracy comes into play. Once you have it, it is there when you need it.
So the result you experienced should be the norm.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The bird has shot-out places all over except where the three bogus arrows are placed. Actually the penetration is not very good. Lots of skill involved in accurately shooting a bow. Lots of skill involved in setting up a fake picture.

Bowmania, those are the distances between jersey road barriers and painted highway lines mandated by the state. Shooting across the entire lanes of the freeway would be illegal.
The legend sure gets alot of mileage out of that pheasant target.

Because shooting that well feels good.
But shooting that well on a consistent basis feels even better.
And seriously?? If you can’t slap ‘em in there at short, short range like that... all you’ve got is a fair start.

Thank you for the overwhelming show of support. It brings tears to my eyes. As for the fliers seen in the target, that was from shooting Skookum's Mojo, a few seasons ago, and my Hoyt PM2. I never waste targets. I use them until I can no longer tell what they are. I am going to start with a new target tonight, but I see no reason to practice with this Bear TD. It never misses the spot! I think I'll shoot the Drake.

My average shot has fallen over the years to around 8 yards. 17 yards is over twice as far as my average shot on deer, so I'm fine with it. Now, if I was not in town, I'd shoot out to 50 yards and take a hunting shot out to 40. I have the skills to get close and get off a shot, so I don't have to worry about longer range shooting.

Practice is what you make it.It should be fun. I suggest you contact some local farmers and ask if you could bow hunt groundhogs. Stalk them, kill some and the farmers will be happy !!! It will be practice in the purest sense and it may open up some new deer hunting spots for you.

The other day I was shooting almost as good as the great out to 28 yards. The reason one needs to practice is to find out what it would be better to stay. it looks like friday would be a good day for me to stay home, cantaloup groups at 20 yards. Or maybe I found out one should not hunt on days that one has a hole pound of grapes and three cups of coffee for breakfast. At least I am no longer constipated.
