Is you're arrow moving backwards or staying still while still using good back tension?

Seen both, just curious what more folks do.

When I release, my arrow is moving forward every time. Never saw it happen any other way ;^)

I don't release or follow through. Those are reactions to the actions I've set up before the arrow leaves the string. When that happens, my arrow is moving towards my back about the speed of pulling a trigger. Well, maybe a little faster, but if you think of it it's a good anology.

Static for me. Lock and release. To prevent string creep I am taking deep breath and contact the shoulders. This easier said than done but Rick Welch videos show how it’s done. Check it out.

Moving back slightly. Have you ever heard of a clicker?

Viper out.

If I'm doing it right, it's moving back slightly. As often as not, it's moving forward slightly. :>)

There is a saying some of the best shooters and instructors will tell you......."never stop pulling".

Moving backwards.

I was fortunate to be taught what good back tension feels like by a coach back in the 90's.

My static draw length is about 30 inches, my dynamic a bit longer.

Moving backwards ever so slightly then a follow-through.

Don't know don't care. The arrow goes forward after I release. That's all that matters to me.

My wife videoed my first shot with my new Sunset Hill, the video showed about a 1/4 to 1/2" creep. That was not caused by the bow, that was caused my me, being not sure what to expect and attempting to take a partially static shot. I try to have a slight pull through on release and I shoot with a more positive power line when I remain fluid through the release. Which reminds me, I shot a bunch of shots with a target bow the other day, I even used the clicker. I will need to go out this evening and get the fluid groove back in gear.

Its tension and timing and it rips the string out as you gently open your fingers and not pluck the string.

You aint playing a BanJoe or maybe you are?

The problem is that you can convince yourself you are at full draw by pretending you are still pulling when the arrow was actually released way before you reach anchor

Follow through is in the bow arm, not the draw arm/hand. As soon as you turn the string loose, the drawing hand has no more affect on the flight of the arrow.

I see a lot of fake follow throughs with the string hand.

It's like, "OK, I let go of the string, now I have to throw my hand back to look cool".

Don't believe me? Watch the videos of groups shooting at 3-D trad gatherings. Pretty funny stuff.

"Ole!" After each release.

I agree Red. And most let go of the arrow 5 inches in front of their faces. Lol

Follow through (for me anyway) is keeping my bow arm up/remaining in my shooting form- not trying to follow game or my arrow/dropping my arm. my release hand stays pretty much where it was when the string left it, unless I'm swatting skeeters.

Takes a LOT of work to get it consistent without a clicker, which is part of the joy of Trad Barebow shooting.

I do sometimes use a clicker for training at the Bale. I find ingraining that feeling then trying to repeat during my normal shooting helps keep my release consistently the same.

I sometimes tend to relax my back as I relax my fingers on the string. I have to remain conscious of my back tension. Makes a huge difference in my accuracy.

Hold back tension, but relax fingers (my mantra).

Exactly.. why I take a deep breath and freeze my bow arm , let go of of the string and bow( not really but loose hold ). Static draw I guess. The
