There are a bunch of Youtube links on tuning, including Ken Beck's, but there are lots of Jimmy Blackmon fans on Leatherwall so that's the link I've provided.

Always like his videos.
Think I saw grizzly Jim bare shafting without fletched shafts as well. Guess there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Great video. Thanks. What I love about Jimmy is he can teach as well as he shoots and still remains modest. >>>>-----> Ken

Jimmy, If it's OK to tune and leave arrows a 'little nock high, the feathers will straighten it out", why not a little stiff or a little weak also? Feathers will straighten it out.

"Jimmy, If it's OK to tune and leave arrows a 'little nock high, the feathers will straighten it out", why not a little stiff or a little weak also? Feathers will straighten it out."
That is totally fine. Been sampling the right brain side of archery, all the non-instinctive stuff, for the last few years. Mind bending. If you go through 3 under; string walking; I don't know what you call it, but Dwayne's method of shooting so that you dial in point of aim; and fixed crawl, you will not be shooting tuned arrows in any conventional sense. Some of these methods require spine adjustments on the fly.
Presumably if one is going to be so loose with this stuff, you probably want to start from a good neutral position, or at least have your neutral position on the bow you are shooting, somewhere. Yeah, the bows are fluid as far as spine is concerned. If you move to compounds, it is almost irrelevant. And we are kinda moving that way... All it takes are release aids...

I began to give the " nock high" situation more thought after having watched Jimmie's video on tuning and listening to his comment.
In giving it addition thought and how it relates to my set up and those that have become popular after Dr. Ashby's work. Think about it logically and with view to physics and gravity. It is natural for an arrow especially in a bare shaft state to arrive knock high. It is a simple function of it's natural trajectory through a parabolic curve.
I am lucky enough to live in a place where I can shoot bare shafts at any distance I care to. I tend to be rather critical of acheiving excellent arrow flight from tuned bare shafts but was always frustrated by the slight knock high. Then I had the epiphany when the knoch high became more of an issue at the longer distances.
Try to imagine looking at the arrows trajectory and the attitude of the shaft relative to level. In the beginning of the flight the point will be above the knock, at the apex it will be pretty much level with knock and then once past the apex of the trajetory will be below the knock ( knock high ). Like I said I get excellent arrow flight and on a good day can shoot respectable bare shaft groups at 60 yards.
Don't get me wrong I am NOT suggesting to completely ignore major nock high ( and I don't for a moment think Jimmie B was suggesting that at all ) what I am suggesting is that sometimes the condition of "NH" isn't related to bad tune. db
Ps. J.B. has forgotten more than I will ever know about this sport and the science of it.
