Can anyone tell me about this bow. It is a dual shelf, has the standing bear, serial number CT523 60" 44# I get the 60" and the 44# Just don't know about the CT. Nothing indicates if it is a kodiak or grizzly. Guess it could be a Cub. Did the dual shelf come in about everything. I think it is 1953- 55,56. Don't know. Thanks, Clay

CT is meaningless, and we have said here many times, the serial number is not how you date Bear bows except from 1965 through 1969. You can tell more by the standing bear decal. A decal means it's before 1956 when the went to silk screen. If it has a patent decal it's 53 or later. It it says patent pending it's a 1952. If no patent decal of any kind it's 51 or earlier.

Any way to tell if it is a grizzly or kodiak? I'll get some pics up in a few days. Has two pat numbers, does not say pat pending. Has the standing bear, so before 56, pat., but not pat, pending so 53 or later, puts it about 54 or 55. I'll get pics. I would like to know if it is a kodiak, grizzly, cub, or whatever. Thank George for the summary, it helps. Clay

Some of the letter prefixes designated the bow length. I'm most familiar with the late fifties bows and how it worked on them. My guess from what little information that you have posted is that it is a 53 to 55. Glass color would help to narrow that down. Do you see the glass color in this picture?

It is probably a kodiak, at 60". The double shelf grizzly was 62" and the only double shelf cub was 62" in 1957. bvd

The red glass bow is a 1955 Polar. It is a semi-recurve...barely. The black glass bow is a Grizzly. That reminded me, does your bow have straight, semi-recurve, or static tips?

I see that BVD. The Grizzlys were 62" I believe that the Kodiaks were all longer bows, like 64" and 68". So, by the process of elimination, I'm going to have to look at the Cubs. The glass on the cubs was much redder than the bow in my picture. Later. It's supper time.

As I posted above, the Kodiak was. the only one of the bunch that was 60" and they did come in 56" and 64" for 1955/56. They had dark brown glass. The '54 Kodiah was also single shelf, had tan glass and came in 68" plus 56", 60" and 64". bvd

Jorge Coppen says in his book that some of the late 53s had the dual shelf as well. Perhaps the serial number could tell the tale if anyone knows how high the numbers went in both years.
