I am looking at footing carbon arrows with aluminum shafts and curious about others results. From reading different articles I believe the XX78 shafts are harder and less likely to creasing or bend but are more brittle and prone to cracking lengthwise.

On the other hand the XX75 are softer and more prone to bending but less likely to crack.

I'm hoping some fellow wallers have experience using these different materials and can add share their experiences, good or bad. Good Day

Just a thought

I use the cheap soft Jazz for stumping and have far less casualties with them as far as splitting than I do with the classics- noticable difference

my best results are with Douglas fir though

For footing carbons I don't believe you will notice a bit of difference in either choice. You're dealing with a very short section of footing bonded to another thickness of carbon. I believe you will find either to be a very rigid foundation that will prolong the life of carbons that are treated roughly (i.e. stumping).

Best of luck sir.

D31 -

You'll never be able to tell the difference.

Viper out.

If the length of your footing is around 1” I don’t think it makes any difference.

I use what fits, XX75, XX78, old green GG, etc. I have had a couple split but that’s because I hit rebar or cement. No shaft damage by the way. You would be wise to foot the rear of shaft as well if it’s rocks you’re hunting. I use a piece about 1/2” long for that.

Thank you to all who replied. I do intent to foot both ends of the arrow and put a bevel on to ease arrow removal. Good Day
