This spring, I've been shooting my 30# Pro Medalist and graduated to my 45# Drake last week. As usual, the Drake was squirrelly until after a few shots. I got it calmed down and shooting well. Last night, I finally took out the Bear TD. It's 47#. I, once again, was reminded I was shooting the fastest, quietest and most accurate bow I've ever shot! I mean, it's at least as fast as my old Deathmaster. Maybe no faster, but at least as fast. I think it's a little faster. No longbow ever made could be quieter. It's insanely quiet! It shoots like a million bucks! Talk about speed and stability! Anyway, I'm already preparing room in the freezer for the 2019 deer I take with this bow.

I like it!!!! You know, some twenty odd years ago I set out to own the "best", "fastest", "smoothest" most "accurate" shooting custom bow on this earth. For about two years I ordered, paid for, had made, waited for, got, shot and sold in disappointment a metric schitt ton of what {if it wasn't the best, it certainly} was the most expensive group of custom traditional bows made at the time. I even tried several longbows, most of which were really recurve's with straight limbs. Then, one day I called the guy at "The Footed Shaft" and he recommended I try a Custom Kodiak. I have been in love ever since. All those expensive custom bows...all that hard earned money...and for me, the Custom Kodiak is the winner. This past month I have purchased 4 magnesium riser bows {2 A's and 2 B's} with an assortment of limbs and I am wishing I had gotten at least one of these sooner. Leaving for a dive trip right now but I will post some photos next week if anyone is interested in seeing how a hillbilly restores a mag riser bow.

I have to say Frisky, she is pretty and glorious. I doubted your choice and your Legend status until Knifeguy let me shoot his A- riser. From that moment on my tune changed. Sweet shooters. Your Legend worship continues! Ha Ha.

Frisky, owning the bow and shooting are two different situations. What does it matter what the cast is if you bumper the venison?? :D AND how can you say a mouse trap is ever as quiet as a longbow. Sheesh. Maybe your hearing aide battery needs replaced.

Once again, some fly has to land in our ointment. Those of us who found the Bear TD, found the best bow, period.

Dry Bones- You have to draw the bow back a few times to really seat the limbs. Then, all mine have are two yarn puffs. That's all that's needed for quietness that betters the quietest longbow or at least equals it. The Bear string plays a role. It's a FF string that's fairly thick but fast and super quiet. I bought a thinner string, made from the same material, from a maker who makes great strings. However, the thin string adds a bit of noise. It's still quiet, but not as quiet as when I use the Bear string. I'll mess with the brace height and get the thin string shooting quietly too. Anyway, this TD is silent death. I might give it a new name- The Boomslang!

I have a B riser and have never shot an A riser. Do you find much difference between them?

From: Barber
Date: 15-Jun-19

Frisky, say whatever makes you feel good. But we both know that Bear takedown will never in its best day be half as quiet as my Freedom Longbow ! LOL Not bad mouthing a Bear , I’m a huge bear fan ! My favorite Recurves are Bear , the Super Kodiak and Super Grizzly. More of a one piece bow person myself. Anyway, if you were ever to shoot a Freeman Longbow you would put that Bear takedown back in the closet. : )

Date: 15-Jun-19

Bugle-up - I've never shot the B riser. I like 56" bows and under.

Barber- This bow of mine is so quiet, it can't get any quieter! No longbow can beat it in speed, accuracy or quietness.

Not sure how you could like a bow that needs them little “mouse traps” to hold on the limbs?

Frisky, the only way you are going to kill a deer with that Bear TD bow is to mount it on the hood of your Prius like the Texans do longhorns on the hood of a Cadillac.

From: Brad Lehmann

I really like the look of that bow, Frisky. But all that I can say is that your best and my best will probably differ. Until I have shot every bow in production, I have no idea what is best. I do know which one is my favorite. I was disappointed with the Bear take down that I had. I do hope to trade into one of the bubinga and phenolic B risers some day just so I can gaze on it's beauty. If you ever want to get rid of that thing, let me know.

RC the Freeman Longbow that Barber referred to is a longbow made by Jeff freeman- bodymanbowyer on here-. Jeff builds a GREAT longbow and I can guarantee beyond the shadow of a doubt that Bear TD with rat trap latches will ever be THAT quiet. I like Bear bows as well, but they just can't get to the level of Jeff's longbow. I doubt that the noise of the bow matters with Frisky. He most likely can't stay quiet enough himself for that to even matter.

Never shot Jeff's longbows but the handle looks like it wouldn't be very comfortable to me, and fit is everything in a bow....noisy, quiet or otherwise. That's not an issue with the quality of the bow, just how it fits the shooter.

From: RC
Date: 15-Jun-19

Cool Cody, I've never seen one of his bows.

Any longbow will be quieter than a recurve.

I prefer longbows too, and make my own, but I just love my bear td also.

Now Frisky on the other hand, well let's not go there..

LOL:)

From: Dry Bones

George I will 100% agree. Fit is everything when it comes to shoot-ability. If the angle doesn't match you, being accurate is almost impossible. Like a square peg in a round hole. RC, I just re-surfaced a thread with some of Jeff Freemans work. There are other threads on here with his bows as well.

Was shooting mine last Tuesday, started getting a buzzing sound when shot. Took a look and the bottom cat whisker silencer had came off leaving the thread it was tied on with on the string. That was causing the rattling, so I slid it up to the serving to keep it quiet. Shooting some more it dawned on me how quiet the bow was with only one silencer on it. Going to replace the cat whiskers with some wool felt silencers and see how it does. I won’t say it’s the best shooting bow I have ever shot, but it’s really close.

Thanks Cody, nice looking longbows for sure.

Hain't no wonder they are quiet..

I would recommend getting several cheap sponges, in different shades of green, black, and brown, and putting them through the blender so as to make some camo flocking that you could glue onto the riser of that bow. The sponges would help to deaden the rattle from the buckles, and take the shine off the riser. You'd be quiet and invisible for those ten-yard ground blind shots that you prefer, and the bow would only be a little bit homelier.

I have always been drawn toward the Bear T/Ds. Shot a couple but never owned one. Question, are the magnesium riser bows generally as quiet as the wood riser bows?

Bought my first Bear Kodiak Takedown in 1989. Bought a few more after that. They're great shooting bows.

From: M60gunner
Date: 15-Jun-19

Frisky, nice looking rig. I haven’t shot the A riser either. I just prefer the B length. But I do know Bear TD’’s may require more attention with noise suppression than my SK’s. In fact it was my “experience “ with my TD that taught me all bowstring materials aren’t the same. Of course I like to make my life difficult at times by mixing aftermarket limbs in the pot. But I have a few “old Indian tricks” that help tame the beast.

From: Frisky
Date: 15-Jun-19

M60- I honestly thought I was getting a loud bow when I traded for this Bear TD. When I took the 1st shot, I was actually startled by the quietness! Just dead quiet! I also thought it would be slower than my Deathmaster and Drake. It's as fast or faster! I might have just gotten lucky, but this is the bow for me.

Hey M60, whats your trick to make a metal handle bear t/d ad least semi-quiet? I’m pretty good at tuning various bows but the t/d defies my attempts. I do lke a fast flite tyoe string to bring some life to the t/d because a dacron or heavy string makes it more sluggish than I like. Currently I have a 12 strand 450+ with padded loops and padded center which shoots great but it just laughs at silencers. Your input is appreciated. I make my own strings so can whip up just about anything.

Thx, Dave R aka fellow viet grunt

A few weeks ago I picked up a newer B riser (bubinga and phenolic). Bought some #3 limbs 45#. The 64" length makes a smooth draw! Very fast also! The bubinga/phenolic riser has a great physical weight making the bow very stable.
