I'm not sure if this belongs in selfbows or general but I was asked by another LW member to post about the Primitive Archery Meet in Marshall Michigan. It's a great place to go and meet with other bowyers, build and shoot selfbows. It's a all natural material shoot so it stays a bit on the smaller more personal size. There are usually a few FG bows that show up and they get a little friendly razing, but it's mostly selfbows. I really look forward to seeing the familar faces along with some new ones. I Meet a few new ones this year. I hope they become familar ones in the future.

One thing I really noticed this year was the abundant ammout of youngsters. I believe we had six groups of kids shoot the balloon shoot. I didn't get pictures of all the groups as I helped my grandson shoot, but I got a few. It started with the youngest participant and he nailed it. I love seeing these kids and there families attend and participate in these events. We had a lot of kids that never shot a bow before, didn't own a bow or arrows. We had others who generously borrowed their bows and arrows to these kids. Here's some pictures of the balloon shoot.

I've seen the pavilion more crowded but we made a good amount of shavings. I know we had at least two bowyers get there first selfbows shooting. Always fun to see and help with that.

Here's a few pictures from the pavilion

There's a nice 3-d coarse to. I enjoyed shooting several times. Sorry I only got one fuzzy picture of, but it holds lots of good memories for me.

By the last night even the youngest of our tribe was tired out. Even my little granddog.

Great pics Brian. A big thank you to the guys and gals that put it together. They did a great job. Ray and I had an excellent time and really enjoyed meeting everyone. That was one of the best gatherings I've attended. Watching the smiles on the kids faces as they shot their bows was priceless. All and all a great time was had and Ray got to build his first selfbow from a beautiful yew stave with the guidence and help from Pearl Drums. God willing we will definitely be making the trip back next year.

It was my first archery event without my wife. Had to go and visit with Bjrogg, Pearl Drums and many more old friends. Didn't stay long but glad I went.

Brian, now that is what I call archery heaven.

I sure envy you guys, If we have anything like that in Florida, I don't know about it.

Thank you for the photo's It really looked like you had a great time.

It really is Ron. I love making and hunting with these bows. The thing that keeps bringing me back here though is the people. Just can't find a better bunch. They come from all over the US and Canada. I guess we all have one crazy addiction that draws us together.

I don't know of a Meet like this one in Florida. I know they have some flint knapping meets. Possibly do some bow building. I know Eddie is around Ocala. He's a knapper, bowyer and hunter.

They have MoJam in Marshall, Missouri I think around the 18-20th of July. I know a bunch of those guys and they are awesome people. They really work at teaching selfbow building and have some pretty cool shooting stuff.

Your always welcome to head up north. It's worth the trip.

Chuck I sent you a PM. The main event days are always the Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. Some come early, most leave by Sunday. Very family friendly. Stuff to keep us big kids entertained to. Like I said before. It is a natural materials shoot. Primitive camping. Grass is mowed but very few electric hookups. No sewer that I know of. A couple showers and bathrooms. It's held at the Wilder Creek Conservation Club. We do usually have a trade blanket, jug shoot for kids and another for adults. Poachers round for adults. Bear across the pond. A few vendors. Good place to get supplies. Staves, stone, Archery supplies. It's pretty loosely run. Shoot coarse if and when you like. Never seen a score card. Not a huge crowd and I personally like it that way. Having said that, the people I've met are what keeps me coming back. I've made some very good friends and miss them already. No fires on the ground, so you have to bring one of those elevated fire rings if you want a campfire. Bjrogg
