curious. If you added a shelf to a shelfless bow, what would you use? Ive seen DIY using leather and superglue.
Also where should the placement be?

Leather soaked with super glue, a wooden wedge, half a wooden dowel, a piece of a wine cork, those are just some of the things I've used.

A piece of PVC heated, hammered, cut, and snaded to a shape you want.
Covered with a material of your choice, and held in place with the handle wrap.
You have to make it an "L" shape with a thin lower shank the slips between the bow & the wrap. Sometimes that's tight enough to hold it just fine, and sometimes you have to add a little glue.
Placement is - where it works best for you, which is normally gonna be right at where the arrow pass is without the shelf.
Works like a charm.

On selfbows and such, I use leather. I glue pieces of thick leather together with superglue, shape it so it tapers to nothing along the edges, then adhere it to the bow with 3M ATG transfer tape. It stays put through all use and weather, but it can be removed if needed with no ill effects to the finish.

I used a wedge of osage to put a shelf on a mid 50's Bear Cub. I didn't like it.
I like the idea of leather and super glue, will remove and try again.

I would not do anything permanent, you may change your mind and decide to go with a leather bow hand protector.

I cut 3/4" tip from a shed antler of a young buck and grind it uniform just less than halfway and drill a hole the same diameter just above the grip only deep enough - about 3/8" for it to seat halfway and epoxy it.
If you size it right it will be just a tad outside your arrow shaft and angled slightly upward to cradle it. I get no fletch contact with this method and it looks cool!
This isn't a great pic but the idea is there.
