Howdy Folks, it’s been quite a while since I’ve been on here, happy to see some familiar handles still around!! Anywho, is anybody on here in the Andover MA area and or a member of the Andover Sportsmen’s Club? I’m looking for a range to shoot at in the area, and would love to get any info that anyone could share. Thanks in advance! ??????

Click on the Bowsite tab above, then navigate to the Massachusetts forum, post your question there.

Also, get on Jawge's mailing list for trad shoots in the area.

Jay, Where is that shop in MA?

From: Jay B
Date: 27-May-19

It was Reedy’s Archery Shop, in Middleborough. Originally took the trip south to check out Traditional Archery supply in Whitman, then did a google and found Reedy’s was close by, so popped over to check it out. They’re geared 95% to compounds, but did have a few recurves, including one Stryker. Very nice shop though. Looks like they run an outfitting gig for Canadian bear hunts as well. Only stayed briefly, as the little woman was getting bored.

From Reedy's you're not too far from Bass Pro and an assortment of clubs that host 3-D shoots (mixed.)

If you're on facebook this page has a ton of shoot info -

Eastern Mass. clubs that host 3-D's, the league is 'Tri-County' - 2019 schedule of shoots -

The only club out east that I've shot was Tiverton, which is actually in RI, good course, fun bunch of folks.

(Anyone else here remember the old T-BONE shoots?)

Jay,

You’re welcome to come on over and shoot with me in my backyard range in Ashland! :-) I can get up to 50 yards ( but I’ll have to move my old car that I’m donating before I can get to 50 yards again LOL ). Seriously though, send me a PM with your number if you’d like.

Dana,

I occasionally do the tri-county shoots with some friends and either of you guys are welcome to join us.

And, I remember the T-BONE shoots from like 20 years ago!

Jason, thank you sooo much for the offer!! Checking now to see how far I am from you!! Sounds like you’ve got a great setup there!!

Looks like we’re about 30 minutes apart, Jason. Now I’ve just got to get my equipment up here from LI!!

From: DanaC

Thanks, Jason, I generally shoot Pioneer Valley or Safari League shoots (central/western MA).

Awesome Jay! I’ll send you a PM with my phone number. Call anytime you get a chance! And, yeah. We are anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes away. Of course if it’s rush-hour traffic it could be an hour and a half LOL!

Dana,

I’m sure we’ve probably seen each other, heck we probably even know each other LOL! I used to shoot the Safari league 20 years ago with Paul Mu. Bobby Wa. And Dave La. Those guys were all from just south or west of Worcester and I was up in Paxton. I used to go to that Century Sportsmans club shoots a lot too. And I still see Ray from century at some of the tri-County shoots.

And I am on George’s mailing list too. He’s a great guy and that list has been really helpful for getting people to the local traditional shoots!

Jason, I’m new to Mass, spent my whole life on Long Island, up until last spring, when I started coming to Andover to see my girl. Going through a nasty divorce right now, but as soon as that’s done with, I’m moving to Andover. In the meantime I’ll be bringing my shooting gear up to MA, ASAP. Looking forward to making your acquaintance soon brother. Nice name, by the way!! Mine is Jason D Bennett!! :)

Jason,

Good for you man! And, yeah, very classy name! LOL!

I’ve got a friend that did some serious hunting up in North Andover. I say, “did” because he is moving to Montana with his fiancé june. But last year he was going to show me around North Andover as he was saying some of the deer hunting that was fantastic. Unfortunately couldn’t hunt this year because of a shoulder injury.

We seem to have a group of other guys from Massachusetts interested in getting together for roving/ stump hunting. From what I’ve gathered from talking to them everybody is Between 30 minutes to an hour from me with me being somewhat centrally located. Joe is west of me 20 minutes, you are north of me 35 to 45 minutes and Ted is south of me 45 minutes to an hour.

I don’t think any of us know each other but it’s funny that these two threads happened to pop up at the same time. :-)

Give me a call when you get settled in!

Guys,

My club, the Townsend Rod & Gun on Emery Road in Townsend, is having a "free" archery open house on Saturday the 1st from 9:00 to 1:00, rain date is the 2nd.

I'm not computer smart enough to attach the info here but if you google the club all of the info is on our website under archery. The club is great, on over 300 acres, and has a very active archery group.

Jason, Sounds good buddy!! I’ve been to Andover almost weekly for over a year now, and deer sightings are rare, at least compared to where I live now. I have seen a lot of nice woods and promising looking areas. The roving group sounds great, can’t wait to meet you guys. Did I see you post that you’re a bowyer??

From: Jason D
Date: 30-May-19

Dana,

That’s great to hear that Bobby still getting out and shooting! Is he still beating everybody? I’m sure he could still beat me! I knew about Dave moving out to Wyoming or New Mexico I guess they’re all kind of the same right LOL.

And great to hear that you’re shooting with ‘Uncle Paul’ too! Please, please say hi to Uncle Paul for me! I lost touch with all of those guys And all Archery after a tough divorce over 10 years ago and I often wonder How they’re doing. And I’m sure that you and I I have met, the more we are chatting now about this topic.

Ralf,

That Townsend shoot sounds fun and I may go depending on what is going on with The Wife on Saturday. Anybody else going?

Jay,

Aspiring bowyer! LOL! I have several forms given to me by a well-known/small town bowyer from Massachusetts named Ed Holcombe. He’s super great guy and very knowledgeable. I’ll be tapping is knowledge base soon I hope in building a boat or two this summer.

I have been refinishing bows for well over 20 years. Not as a professional though! LOL! I think I would end up making about $0.30 an hour considering the time and energy I put into the process and when I get back in payment When I get around to selling them. Done for passion not profit LOL!

Hey Jason,

I might stop in after breakfast to see how it's going but we have a commitment on the N.H. seacoast early afternoon so we'll be busy.

It would be great if you can make it, I think you'll be impressed by our club and property. Some of the guys deer hunt on it as it's allowed.

Ralf,

Will not be able to make it to Townsend as it turns out I have a commitment with my wife in the morning that I had forgotten about. Sounds like a good time though

From: Jay B

Jason, that is super cool!! I’ve heard of Ed’s work, and his great personality at shoots over the years, and I’ve always admired his bows. Hopefully when we get together I’ll be able to meet him too!!

From: Jason D
Date: 02-Jun-19

Jay,

Ed is out in the Stockbridge Western mass area. Nowhere near me. I still haven’t been able to get in touch with him as I haven’t called him back yet either! He’s way into guitars now and doesn’t think much about bows I don’t think.
