Are there any other arrow finishes (similar consistency) that can be used successfully with the Pro Dipper & gasket system, other than gasket lacquer, or is GL the only game in town?
Also, looking for recommendations for the best gasket lacquer ... want one that dries clear (doesn't yellow) and hard and performs well. Or are they all basically the same?
Thanks for your advice.

Gasket lacquer is nitrocellulose lacquer but is formulated for the thick consistency for coating pencils, ie shafts. It’s the only game in town if you want the thick stuff.
That said, I always thin the thick stuff, too thick for me, with the normal thinner store bought nitrocellulose lacquer.

If you can find clear lacquer(try Sherwin Williams)it drys so fast after dipping that you can dip quite quickly. Dip a dozen then do the next coat. Do 4 or 5 coats.I did not like nitrocellulose as it does not penetrate the wood, thereby not a good water proof seal.

The dipper was developed for dipping shafts into any kind of finish. The gasket lacquer is just one of those options.
Gasket lacquer is popular because its good, quick and clean. It also smells less than other solvent based varnishes, but you can use anything on the dipper.
I'm convinced everyone gets their lacquer from the same industrial supplier, shop by price.

The gasket dipping system was developed to work with thick viscosity, fast drying lacquer. It will not work with very thin viscosity, slow drying paints.

To clarify my post. You can put whatever you like inside the dipper, but if you want to use the gasket system to squeegee the varnish off the shaft then you must use the proper lacquer product.

I went to waterbased polyurethane years ago from many years of laquar and it has worked well for me. I use Carver Tripp brand and just dip and let it run off.
