For hunting arrow I'm guessing you won't be far off with a 30 inch goldtip 500 spine arrow, with a 100 grain brass insert and a 150 to 175 grain tip. cut just a few to 30 inch and give it a try, you may have to go somewhere between 30 and 31 inch arrow,

How much FOC are you looking for? Really no answer to the question other than conjecture if there is no starting point.

Well you need to decide the gozintos, and after that it's math.

I would guess a 300 spine full length with that much weight up front check out 3 rivers archery .they have a spine calculator that is pretty easy to use and it will get you close to what you need then fine tune from there . Great shooting brother

Derek, I don't think you're getting it. What draw weight, draw length, and arrow length are you looking at?
415grs. is 83% of the total weight of a 500gr. arrow (10grs, per pound of draw weeight). Don't know where you are going to find anything stiff enough, or light enough yo make that work well.

can not understand why guys put all the weight in broad heads and shoot 100 grain inserts... What arrow components are you gonna use? Better get something that you can change the weight on when you bare shaft tune. What arrow shafts are you gonna use? .246 carbons, .204 carbons, or micro diameter carbons? Lots of aftermarket arrow components, Ethics Archery and Firenock are what I use. But I don't shoot hfoc arrows, only build arrows in the 16% to 18%. How much money do you want to spend on shafts? Gold Tip Airstrikes were designed to build foc but still have a lite arrow. But they are expensive. Victory Archery TDT is a tapered shaft that allows you to build up the foc, but six shafts is 130.00. The thing to buy us to buy some shafts and components and start building.

Buglmin that’s what I’m trying to sort out, I am trying to figure out a starting place with bare shaft tuning with a high FOC arrow.

I am shooting a 50 lb. @ 28" Toelke Pika drawn to 27.5"
Gold tip Classic 400's @ 11.3 GPI -cut to 29" - 85 grain insert with 250 grain point. Arrows finish at 700 grain.

You can punch all the info into one of the spine calculators out there and play around with arrow lengths, spines, point weights, etc. and see what to use to start out with. These calculators are a great asset for setting up your rig. I've been using Rick Barbee's a lot lately.
