I'm working on an apple tree stave that is 671\2" long and want to have the top limb longer than the bottom. I've marked the handle at 33" from the tip of the bottom limb, went up 1.5" from that point for my shelf. My question is, where on my tillering stick do I place my handle for checking tiller? From the 33" line, actual halfway line 33.75", or the self line (34.5")? This is the first bow I've tried to tiller with longer top limb

Where ever your hand is gonna' hold it. That's where you tiller any bow from.

Center of the handle on the stick, yes, but you pull the string at a point perpendicular to the shelf. That's closer to where your fingers will be when you shoot it.

I tiller from the center and finish the last 2 inches with digital pics, in front or a mirror or in front of a window at night. Jawge

Well I don't use a tiller board. But I go more by measuring at each fade and try to get the same from sting to fades. When I have this the same the bow is almost always real close to tiller at 26-28.. some other variables but not much. Arvin

I like to tiller with my hook level with the bottom of the arrow rest. I use a strap to hold my bow at the same location the web of my hand will be when shooting it. Something to keep in mind is that once you release that string to shoot an arrow the bow is no longer responding to your hand pressure or where you pulled it back. The arrow is the only thing holding the limbs back at that point and I like the arrow to travel forward as level as possible. As a rule measuring from the bottom of the fades to the string and keeping the top limb about 1/8" weaker will give you a bow easy to tune.
