The other four were in the bail. Compound boys were impressed. Nice day to be out shooting!

Come on , you know the rules- pictures or it didn't happen:) I'd be happy with eight out of ten in the bale at that distance. JayInOz

My standards are lower... ;-)

Nice, what's your setup?

I use the 40cm Hunter face on my walkbacks (10 to 70y) one shot every 5 yards, at worst I have a couple out the scoring area (Stringwalking an ILF setup) but it is a great indicator to me of my consistency, and if I can identify a weak distance I will then take the time to work on that particular distance.

I have 60y target next to the house and full IFAA and WA Field-3D ranges in our 50 acre forest. Sounds like heaven but think I spend more time maintaining the course than actually shooting it lol

Nice shooting. Post a picture sometime, I'd love to see it.

I do some facewalking; estimate range, pick a spot to anchor on my face, then loose. It is great to see an arrow trace out an arc then hear it smack the target. 'putting the arch back in archery.' (GF)

I believe 70 yards constitutes a Fetro, it was dire wolf's point on distance.

Yep, pictures or video or it didn't happen.lol

Ya, I do need to figue out how to post a video. My setup is a Hoyt Excel riser with Hoyt F7 Carbon Foam Limbs 30# at my draw. I am shooting Carbon Express XR 700 spine, I make my strings, this one is 10 strands of Ultra Cam padded to 18 at the loops. One of the compound shooters watching is sponcered by Mathues Bows, it was fun hearing them get excited seeing my arrows fly and land all thogether at 70 yards. It was one of those days!

I can't even see the paper plate from that distance. Nice shooting. Bjrogg

I’d be lucky to hit the bales. Nicely done! Lance

Nice! On a real good day, I can just about hold that tight on windage, but not so much for elevation. 6 out of 10 into 6 to 10 plates is more like it... if you imagine the plates stacked one on top of the next!

Show them wheelie-boys how it’s done!!!

And speaking of putting the arch back into archery.... At our last work party, I ended up asking one of the guys to give me a hand with the pole-saw; he’s a good foot taller than I am and I needed a little extra reach to take out a limb that was extending across one of our long-bomb target lanes. He was really accommodating, but his curiosity got the best of him, and he couldn’t help but ask why I was worried about pruning anything that high up. You should’ve seen the look on his face when I told him that I was skipping arrows off of those branches and losing them on the hillside beyond!!

Good shooting Charles, that's a fine effort at 70 yards...pretty impressive.

Yes, a picture would be nice. It’s good to hear there are some other like minded folks who like to shoot long distances like me. Maybe it’s the arc of the arrow? But there is a big sense of gratification when those arrows hit the mark. I am sure you felt it!

I shoot in a target league in the summer out to 80 yards and it sure is fun watching those arrows fly that far. We had a girl shoot with us one day last year that was training for the olympics, she goes to college in the south but was in PA for a summer internship. Her recurve looked like something from outer space and boy oh boy could she shoot it. She was fun to shoot with and didn't even make fun of us 40 something old guys and our old fashioned bows.

I don't know if I could get 6 out of 10 shooting a 22 cal. rifle off hand with iron sights in a paper plate at 70 yds. To shoot that with a bow and no sights is really impressive. Nice shooting!

I put 1/1 into a block target at 50 once.

The OD on the red is 24.4 centimeters, watching Olympic trials a couple weeks ago, they were unhappy straying into red at 70 meters. Very windy. Good shooting, wished I could do it.

Thanks for all the comments, the compound boys are by and large good guys. One of them even said " you hit the center on your first shot and I will start shooting a recurve", well you can guess what happened, my first shot was on the bail, but no where close to a bullseye. The fella was impressed I even hit the bail on the first shot!

About 10 years ago I shot NAFAC in Florida with Redbow, big hold up on the 80y walkup (We're both shooting Longbow), two groups of Compounds waiting, friendly ribbing Dana about his stick and why shoot something like that, you cannot hit squat with them, his first shot was an X and ended up with an 18 score, we could hear the Compounds excited talking all the way through, when we walked up and pulled arrows, Dana says to me with a big grin on his face "Never shot that good before on this target, but what a perfect time to do it"

I love impressing mechanical bow guys.

My municipal range max is probably 50 yards. I was there one afternoon after practicing a lot that year and was pretty consistent. Another guy starts to shoot his wheelie bow with competition V stabilizers. He had a great group but was floored by my notebook sized group.

Goes to show its the archer, not the bow.

Most of the folks we get into traditional archery come from those "wheelie bow" guys. Many of them grew up not knowing any other type of archery, so it's not surprising they can be amazed at shooting with a recurve or longbow. That's just not knowing our history. It's not a crime, and 90% of those guys are fine people who seem very respectful of other's ways of shooting.

Most of my friend shoot compounds and a few even crossbows. Good folks who choose differently than me. I'm good with that. Being humble is good to because you don't know what they say once you leave. Let a good impression.

I shot a compound for a while- lighted pendulum sight, quality stabilizer, expensive release aid, etc., etc- good gear but didn't have any soul:) My old boss brought one of his friends out to the farm I was managing one day and the conversation got around to hunting. Boss told his friend that I was into archery. The feller said "You reckon you could hit that fence post from here?" About a foot diameter at about fifteen yards :) I said I could shoot a golf ball off the top of that post from here. The feller burst out laughing and walked away. I didn't have the bow with me so I couldn't show him, but it really ticked me off being taken for a liar like that. These days I couldn't care less what people think- one of the few good things about getting old:) JayInOz

"I don't think my arrows go that far"! I actually heard that statement from a guy at a 50 yd. target! He was shooting a 50# recurve. Should have been about point on for him! As I recall he didn't even shoot.

I think there are an awful lot of “Trad” guy who have NO CLUE what their equipment is capable of, or what THEY might be capable of if they were to study the sport in a disciplined manner.

I don’t care how close you choose to get when you’re hunting - you can never be too accurate. Besides - 90% of this game is half mental. If you know you’re entirely comfortable shooting foam deer at 35 yards, it’s a real confidence booster on Live ones at half of that.
