Timing is everything. I just finished my first goose-feather-wood-arrow-project and took some pictures to share and and what do I see posted? A thread for world championship arrow building.
I am posting my modest workmanship to encourage any other archer that might be interested in arrow building to give it a try. It was a satisfying experience. I got some homespun goose fletching from Bentstick54, many thanks. I also ordered some Douglas Fir sticks from Surewood Shafts. Bill set me up with the spine and length. I was a little nervous about the tune, but when I tried them they flew without any vertical or horizontal twitch. Thanks, Bill. The shafts had 35 to 38 rings per inch, I've never seen wood like that.
When I first shot the goose, I was surprised at how much hissing noise that they made. It is kind of fun and I'm not going to hunt with them anyway.

I made two arrows of three different patterns all of a similar style.
One set has Cherry stain at the fletch and cordovan shoe polish over Early American stain on the shaft. Another has Sedona Red at the fletch and black shoe polish over Early American stain on the shaft. The third has white spray paint at the fletch and grey primer spray paint on the shaft.

Nice job. I love arrows with a primitive look and self nocks. >>>-----> Ken

Nice Job! I've always liked goose fletching. Half my geese are grey and half are white, so I can have a contrasting cock feather. If I worked out the cost of feeding a flock of geese over half my lifetime, I'd probably get rid of them and buy my fletches:) JayInOz
