If there is enough interest I will give a free STAR Method Seminar in Bozeman, MT in August for injured archers who can't use (or painfully use) their index, middle, and ring fingers.

I invented various nonmechanical releases for longbows and recurves and one of these is a thumb release that works very well using just the thumb. The other fingers are not used except passively. So if you have injury in these other fingers, this may be just the ticket for you to keep you shooting and/or hunting with your beloved trad. bows.

The STAR Method thumb release has nothing to do with the somewhat famous (or infamous) asiatic thumb ring or any other thumb release.

There is only two stipulations: you really have injured fingers and you need a healthy thumb!

Besides the seminar, there probably would be opportunity to visit some of the local bowyers as well as fishing and Yellowstone Park opportunities.

All accommodations and travel arrangements are up to attendees. Bozeman has a great airport, but travel and accommodation in August can be a bit tight with all the Yellowstone Park visitors and fishermen/women. This is the main reason I am posting now.

The actual dates in August are to be determined, but probably mid August. Venue depends upon the number of attendees. This is not a big formal event. I will give everyone individual attention and everyone will have an opportunity to shoot, but the seminar itself will be relatively brief, half a day at most.

If you are interested, just send me an email: [email protected] with header STAR Method Montana Seminar.

Again, no costs for the seminar or anything else from my end. Perhaps this method will help you if everything else has failed.

What year?

This year, this August.

For those who have injured thumb but index finger is ok, I'll be glad to help them as well.

It's for anyone with injuries that can't shoot glove or tab because of pain, deformity, missing fingers, etc. You will need either a healthy thumb or healthy index finger, but not necessarily both.

David, are you going to be in Bozeman for other reasons besides this? I live in Three Forks and would like to shoot with you. My fingers are still working but not well in the cold. Chris

Yes, Chris I'm doing some stuff with RER bows and might do some flying at the Three Forks airfield. Send me an Email at my above address and maybe we can shoot a little. Would welcome the opportunity to meet you.

David I can't make it but just wanted to say I had my right hand severed in a log splitter back on Dec. 1st 1985 mid palm and had it re attached. Had 2 pins put in each finger except my thump which was just broken but only one pin in it .Amazingly the Dr's put it back together but it took me lots of therapy and patience but miraculously I can still shoot with that hand. I had a spoon welded on my TSS Wrist style release aid and it helped me back then. I wish there was something back then but sounds like you have a similar devise you may be offering now. Just wanted to say thanks for helping those who want to still shoot and offering a seminar on the issue. Keefer's <')))>< Here is a before reattachment from back then.

I have a video of some Montana notables switching to the STAR Method, but haven't posted it anywhere. Conversion rate is nearly 100 per cent...

Well, it won't be that high for people who are already happy with their shooting, obviously.

Anyway, this seminar is for those who are having trouble with hand injuries. I am very understanding of the frustrations anyone with injuries has and many of us do have injuries esp. as we grow older.

David, I know Chester. Would be great to meet you. I will send you an email.

From: David A.

Have a nice video of Chester using one of the methods, but we only worked together for 20 minutes so we only went into one basic method. Can't say enough good things about him and RER bows, particularly the Arroyo Recurve. He is building me additional bows with slight modifications. Very open minded and very talented bowyer.

Keefers, pls. send me an email per above.

Any others with injuries, I will be glad to help you if you can come to MT in August and if not, maybe I can help afterwards. I leave for overseas very soon and won't return to the USA and archery until around July.

I met David briefly while stump shooting here in Az. David is a top notch shooter and an incredible person. He is also a very knowledgeable and passionate instructor. If you need some help, David is a great source, take him up on his offer.

Phil, I don't make people do anything. I ask they keep my methods confidential for now.

Talagang gandang tao doon.

May I ask why you want to keep your methods confidential for now."

I just want to do it right. It would be chaos in throwaway posts as there are many methods. Most archery instructors teach in person pretty much entirely...not unusual really.

I just got Barry Wensel's Trophy Whitetail Hunting Techniques DVDs (excellent), but for many years he only taught this info. in his bootcamps. He might have just laughed if someone insisted he reveal that info. in a few posts.

I was involved in David's first seminar he presented in Green Valley Arizona. Very well done as David was well prepared and well versed in his method. He will go to great lengths in assisting people who have injuries or disabilities that make it difficult to get off the string. I also encouraged him to keep his system confidential until he is ready to release it in either a book or video format. David is a very honest and sincere person and I feel honored that I had a chance to meet and spend some time with him. Joel

Joel and Rick, thank you for the nice comments.

One other comment about hand injuries and the releases, if your thumb is ok, I have releases for that. Or, if you you have an OK index finger, I have several releases/methods for that as well. Either may get you back into shooting.

Thx for the help you're offering people David. What a joy to know you may not have to give up shooting traditionally. Not sure what others are seeing. Though it took awhile to roll out. :^)

Hindi ko alam kung ano ang pinaka-impressed ako. Ang pagkabukas-palad ni David, o siya, at si Larry ay nagsasagawa ng pag-uusap sa Filipino.
