I always like a smooth release. A shot made well!

What do you like on you're shelf?

On my long bows, I use thin leather. On my Recurves I use bear hair rugs. Put a bump under over pivot.

flippers and plungers off takedowns. So? What's good?

Hard leather if I'm shooting off the shelf. Flipper rest or the George Stout stick on if I'm not.

Same here. On longbows, and recurves.

I shoot 3 under so I use the Hoyt Hunter stick-ons. I find a raised rest and 3 under work well together (for me).

I had this fella at the marina we stay at in the summer months give me his old Browning recurve last year and on it was a shelf mounted rest with a spring on it that went down and collapsed as the arrow passes over it. Very neat to say the least. Quiet too and you can shoot vanes if you so desire off of it. keepem sharp

PS the bow is pretty mint and from the mid 70s just had camo paint on it. Quiver mounts on the back of the limbs which I don't think I've seen before.

longbow1, that was a Saunders Whisper Rest. Browning issued them with many of their bows in the 70's. Browning of course called it the Browning Whisper Rest. I still have one.

I use stick on rests....have since 1967. Simple, durable and replaceable if needed in less than a minute.

I use several different types. I like a Hoyt plastic stick on rest and shoot off hard leather as well. I have some with the Bear rugs. Shot a few different bows yesterday and I do think I am more consistant with the plastic stick on rest.

George, you mention a "Saunders Whisper Rest". Can you post a picture of one on this thread please? I used to have some plastic Saunders rests that had a "star" on them and I referred to them as a Saunders Star rest. Just wondering if I have misidentified them and they are one in the same.

George D. Stout's embedded Photo

Browning used a different side plate with the same rest.

The photo isn't clear but it is covered with hair-like material on the top, and the top flexes with a grove in the bottom. The 1973 Browning Backpacker came with one.

Velcro is as slick as any thing and wears like iron.

Thanks George but not the same. If I can remember, I will get a photo of the rest I am speaking of and post a pic. I posted about that rest before and got no responses at all. I would like to run across a pile of old new stock and buy them all.

George that is exactly what was on the bow. I took it off but still have it. Quite a nice little item that more than likely would be to expensive to reproduce now days. keepem sharp
