A few years ago I made some kids arrows from directions from a friend. Straightened some birch dowels, cut and tapered, fletched, and then sprayed with clear poly. I don't have all of the dipping equipment, but have been thinking of making me some cedar arrows. Would there be any problems with using the same procedure to make some cedars? Is the spray poly all I would need to finish them? Thanks in advance.

Spray on or rub on finishes work just fine on POC. Have fun.

No problem at all. You can use spray poly, spray lacquer, spray on spar, lots of possibilities.

I use poly straight out of the can, wiped on with a small piece of cotton. Let dry and steel wool between coats. Can't tell the difference between these and dipped shafts.

I found water base poly to hold up well. I made a dip tube from PVC from plans on you tube. But the next ones I make ill rub on with a cloth or get an eco-dipper.
I found dipping to leave imperfections and bubbles. Also the finish builds up on the hanging end more. But that may user error on my part:)

I use one of those cheap foam brushes. I use MinWax waterbased Polycrillic.

Wiping on with water based or oil based is quick and simple. Just follow the instructions on the can and go with three or four coats. Wipe on is more economical.
"fletched, and then sprayed with clear poly." I'm guessing you fletched after spraying but just in case.....!

Oh, I forgot and before the question comes up. Fletch Tite glue or NPV glue or tape works for me when fletching. Can’t comment on Ducco, haven’t used it in sometime now.

The glue for the fletching needs to be compatible with the finish. I know duco adhesive works on poly and I'm sure many other glues work well also.

A cheap golf tube works fine. Fold over the bottom or plug it

If you want to dip them, get pvc pipe...cheap and works fine. Wipe-on is easy and the last dozen I did was with Minwax stain/sealer with nothing else. I've been shooting them for awhile now with no breakdown or moisture issues. Duco will make the feather stick pretty well. I do like to dip them though and let them sit a day before fletching.

I just use golf club tubes like Onehair said. I plug the one end with a cork. And sometimes I tape the cork in place. They are very cheap to buy and easy to clean out. I dip with minwax polyurethane with all crown colors except white. If I'm doing a white crown I dip with minwax polycrylic. When ever I dipped with polyurethane with a white crown I got a light yellowish tint to the white crown. Maybe if you sprayed the polyurethane over the white crown instead of dipping this wouldn't happen. I don't use lacquer anymore only because it smells up my house.

Longcruise...no, actually I fletched using super glue gel and then sprayed. They have held up for 2 or 3 years now.

Not surprised that the SG is holding up. I've found it to be great fletching glue. I just wondered about spraying the feathers?
