So I've been re-tuning my bow after getting a new string. I've got everything working perfectly. I shot through paper last night and adjusted my nock point accordingly. Great arrow flight, great groups, bullet holes through paper, and the quietest bow I have ever set up BUT -
The first few shots are NOT quiet. Shooting tonight, and the first nine shots were noticeable, but from the tenth shot on, the bow was as quiet as can be. It was quiet when I finished shooting last night. Any ideas?

Brace height is higher before it settles in.

The brace height has been set for several days now. Is the string creeping with use or something?

Are you saying the bow has been strung for several days? Are you checking the brace before AND after shooting?

String may still be settling, or your form takes a few shots to get right. Happens to me when my form is off and I am trying to rush. When I take my time, things get quiet and accurate.

Shoot the bow again and see if it is still making noise. If it is then that would be odd. If it stopped then your string has stretched in enough that it has settled. Depending on the string material it may stretch more or it may not.

SB - yes the bow has been strung for several days. I haven’t measured the brace height.
I’ll shoot again tomorrow evening - too dark now.

The bow is probably stable based on what you say, could be that it's you settling in after several shots.

Could be how your fingers are coming off of the string or how you are gripping the string till your hand warms up. Like any other physical exercise. Once it warms up you get a smoother release. DANNY

What David McLendon said. It's your release. That or you are making some other type of allowance for it.

I think I figured it out - sort of. It has something to do with how the string lies in the top string grooves. My first several shots tonight were again louder than they should have been, so I started looking at everything real close. I noticed that the string at the top limb didn't lay perfectly in the grooves. The string was in the grooves, just not quite perfect. I twisted the the top limb a little and the string settled in as it should and the noise was gone. Every now and then though, I would get a noisy shot. I ended up unstringing the bow and untwisting the string 1/2 a turn and it seemed to do the job. I can definitely tell when I overdraw or pluck though. W'ell see how it sounds tomorrow.
