As I’ ve stated before this spine thing is a little confusing to me. I normally shoot carbons but am thinking about some aluminum for 3D. I want to set some up for the Hi- Speed I recently bought. It’s 45#. I only draw 26” when I actually get it all the way back. FF string. What would you recommend. What I’ m looking at is a lot auction. 1716 - 27 1/2. 1816 - 27. 1914 -29 1/2. 2013 - 29 1/2

1716s should work. 1816s, too, with a little heavier tip.

N -

Not a dumb question, and not too easy to answer.

First the bow may not be 45# at 28", most of the Damon Howatt/Martin bow can be as much as 10% more than listed, and most were pretty quick, requiring a stiffer arrow than expected.

If it is 45# at 28", it would be about 41# @ 26", and there for a 28" arrow or less 1816 would be appropriate.

If the bow was a few pounds heavier, you getting into 1916 territory.

If I had to make a guess, start with LONG 1916s and don't be afraid to play with head weights.

For giggles, a 1914 might be spot on, but now you're dealing with X7s.

Viper out.

If you are currently shooting carbon arrows that are of appropriate spine, you should be able to guess closely the spine you will need for aluminum shafts.

BTW, if you are a new archer and new to 3D, you might want to rethink shooting aluminum for 3D. When I was new at both, I shot 3d with aluminum arrows. Pretty much every miss was a bent arrow. Switching to carbons worked for me. No bent arrows and very few damaged or broken arrows.
