I've never hunted wild pig and would like to. I discovered that there is a hunt-able population in Ohio (where I live). Anyone hunt any buckeye hogs? Tips, tricks, stories, recommendations on where to hunt? Any information shared is appreciated!!! Thanks! TJ

WHere? I Lived in Pike County Ohio for several years and hunted all over the place and never even talked to anybody who had ever killed one.

Never even saw any place where you could tell a hog had been.

most of what Im seeing seems to be in the south east of the state...according to the DNR site anyway...

I went to a place in Oxford a number of years ago. They were high fence pigs, but they had a lot of them.

Our DNR does not have a good grasp on much related to habitat or populations. In my area and many areas of the state they've decimated the deer herd. Squirrel is the only upland game we have left.

I wouldn't go by their reports of huntable populations of pigs. Not saying there are no pigs in Ohio, but I know of no areas that have good populations.

Like the elusive yeti, Ive heard they exist, yet to see one. Heard they have seen some in Gallia , but cant get permission to hunt. Also heard they may be in Zaleski.

Never seen any sign though But you never know

I've heard there in pockets way back in the hollows.

My hunting group saw 5 in zaleski last season during deer season. Two years ago during late muzzleloader I ran into two fellas who shot one and was the full length of the bed in his short bed pickup. There's several high fence operations down there and that's where the local population is coming from. To me it's down right irresponsible for the state to allow high fence on non indigenous species especially ones like hogs that just tear up the habitat.

John i agree! But if youre one of the governor's buddies or you toss them enough money you can have the high fence or raise that special herb.
