Ive heard a lot of talk about high bow prices. I stopped by bear archery in gainsville and picked up a new kodiak magnum off the blemished rack for 300. It has one hairline streak on bottom limb. You have to look to find it. They had a whole rack of blemished bows. And I have to say...it doesnt look blemished to me.

Hi Josh, I know what you mean. Visited there last Wednesday and left with an Ausable longbow. Jarrod was very helpful and let me test drive quite a few bows before making my decision. Also, congrats on your hog hunt. Still looking down here. All I can find are canned hunts.

Very cool!

What a beautiful looking bow, those curves are just right. And you got it straight from the Bear. I will probably hate you until the end of time.

The bow your holding looks like a Bear Super Kodiak. Is that the bow you bought ?

Yes, good to hear! I agree with Nemo that bow in your picture looks like a Super Kodiak, not a Kodiak Magnum.

Yeah...my mistake. Super kodiak

That makes it even a better deal!

$300 for a Super Kodiak is a real good deal.

I'll bet they have a whole rack of blems. It's about all they make anymore!

SB, how many new Bears do you have?

From: SB

Nothing newer than 1975...except my Greenstripe takedown which is a 1986 model. They still knew how to make them correctly then...what happened? Out of my near ninety Bear recurves there is not a blem among them.

The only one I have left is a 71 Kodiak Hunter. I had a 2011 Grizzly that was flawless and a great shooter but it was right handed. In 50 years I've had a few Bears and not one had a problem. After 2011 I can't attest to their quality, that's why you don't see me post negatively on Bear archery. I think if truth be known, most who do have NO personal experience with their late model products.

Well we have a couple stores here that are Bear dealers. They never have much selection but of course you can order! Thing is ,out of all the bows I have inspected they all had enough issues that I wouldn't buy it. And I do know a couple shops that are always sending substandard bows back to Bear. I was looking at one new model a few years hack but could never find a nice one! I really don't need anymore anyway! ;)

I had all these nay sayers regarding pig hunting in Florida. I guess my next challenge is to kill a Turkey with this beautiful 300 dollar super kodiak.

I do, just can't afford one.

Josh,if you got a good one, that is great! I was hoping they'd get that model right as it is one of the sharpest looking at bows they made. I have a couple originals,a '68 and a '69. They are sweet shooting and dead in the hand. Let us know how the new one shoots!

I already shot it. I'd hunt with it today

Blems are fine for a great price like that. All my bow become blems after I own them for a few weeks anyway. :) congratulations on the new bow and enjoy!

I had a Green Glass Super Kodiak for about a year, and sold it. It had excellent build quality - fit and finish. It shot as good as anyone could want. I believe it was made around 2014?

I don't think that the bowyers at Bear would intentionally turn out poor quality pieces and tarnish their reputation.

I prefer my Grayling Bear Super Kodiaks but I shot a 2016 Bear Super Kodiak ( 65#@28" / 60"amo ) at my friends archery shop. I didn't see any finish problems with it, and it shot really nice.

Anyone that builds the number of bows that Bear does, will have a few blems. That includes the good ole days in Grayling. I believe the bowyers at Bear take pride in their work.

I could not agree more. If this is what they call a blemish than they have strict quality control. It's a beautiful bow

Gorgeous bow, congrats on a great buy! Up there on my list of bows to acquire.
