I bought a 60" Bighorn take down recurve in early 90's. Limbs are 65# at 30". Getting to the point I need something a little lighter (55#), does anyone make limbs for these bows anymore? Or better off just putting it on the wall and getting a new one from a current maker?

Appreciate your thoughts!

Hard to find low poundage limbs for Bighorns. Nobody making new limbs. Don't know if Bow Hospital or someone could reduce your limbs that much.

Are they curved or flat limb bed?

Yes, as Hermon asks, are the curved or flat? Just about anyone can make you limbs for the flat base. Not so sure about the curved base.

I was able to find a set from Big Jim but I think He sold me a set of limbs off one of his used bows. They're scarce as hens teeth. I wish someone would make some new limbs. My vote would be for a new bow. Used Bighorns are out there though.

Does anyone even make NEW Bighorn bows anymore?

RMSG has a used left hand (flat limb bed) that is 53# at 29". Limbs should work on a right hand riser. A little expensive if you only need limbs though.

For what it is worth. I bought a set of light weight curved bed Bighorn limbs a couple years ago. They were made by one of the owners of Bighorn after Asbell. They had the "bomb proof" tips. Don't know if the limb form had been replaced or changed, but the curve where they met the riser was slightly different. Ended up selling them back to the the person I bought them from (just by chance, he saw the ad and had regretted selling them). So if your bow has curved bed limbs it would be something to keep an eye on.

curved limb beds will work on right or left handed risers the only difference is between the custom and the regular risers. Ryman Cat can really tell you better than me. Something about one riser is narrower than the other.

When you ask about the Big Horn bows its best to know what era bow is from. If you did a search what did you come up with on Big Horns that have been discussed?

I herd the end owner was possibly making again but might be hard to get a hold of. And know this the line has been changed from Asbel the curved beds who then changed to flat and then King ruined the company then it got ruined all through the bows got changed and gained weight in the riser forms and limbs.

You can always show a picture if you don't know the era who built bow if it isn't on the bow.

The flat limbs started in 1989. I have a 87 Colorado and Bighorn sent me a letter that they would be phasing out the pre 1989 curved limb beds and would be going up on price of new ones. They were letting original owners know in case we wanted to order new limbs before the price increase. DJ

Brandon Stahl would be one who could make the curved bed limbs but not sure if he would want to. He is one that seems to be able to make anything with fine craftsmanship.

I made a mold based on one of my curved 60-inch limbs quite a few years ago. Think I still have it lying around somewhere. Have no interest in building limbs anymore, though.

Maybe Kirk might he has been making Bear I thought I herd. Any good Bowyer who wants a challenge but then is it really legal with the BH company still being owned to boot leg off their company design unless you change some things the way others beat Pattens??

Get ahold of 2bears on here, ask him if he can reduce the weight. He’s done one of mine, and if he’s home today, I’m dropping another one off.
