Well,I started it anyway
I got a Kodiak Magnum in a trade that had a fair amount of tape on it,and someone had rasped the handle a little.I said the other day that I didn't have the guts to try a refinish, but I thought "What can I hurt?". Sooo,I took a rasp to the handle and reshaped it,then sanded everything but the top limb belly (I don't want to scuff the silkscreen and it looks ok anyway). I'm not sure if I'm gona get a buddy that paints cars to spray it,or hand rub some type of finish on it or hydro-dip it.....but it'll look better either way

you'll do fine. both yorktown5 and phil magistro (and many others here on the wall) have a great deal of experience refinishing bows. Plenty of good info in previous threads.

Looks good so far. You might as well finish it up. Like Scott said, about everything you want to know about refinishing or finishing a bow is available on here.

Several coats of Tru-Oil gunstock finish rubbed into that riser will make it pop! Wipe-on poly on the glass .

That turned out pretty good. I have become enough of a fan of the matte finish that will sometimes take an old bow that has a few scuffs and knock the gloss off with some fine grit paper. Then I'll put one or two thin coats of the matte finish on the bow. The flaws seem to disappear and the bow has a more current look to it. I recently did that to Wing Chaparral that didn't have the best of refinish jobs.

That came out nice! It is a good feeling to be able to go ahead and make a bow exactly the way that you want it. Some will say that you've taken the originality away but it's Your Bow!! I think you did it proud. Great job!

Did that stuff spray out nice and even for you? I've had trouble with rattle can finishes and quit using them! Have had good luck with the Krylon paints tho.

that particular stuff recommends applying additional coats,if needed, two minutes apart. It also says it can get whitish if excessive coats are used, like frosted glass....it's only got one coat at the moment.
