I haven't heard anything about him for some time. He has pretty much disappeared. Last I remember hearing about him was he went to Florida and I believe was doing some fishing then. Anyone here hear/know anything? What happen to him, was a tragedy with how he loved the Outdoors, as it would be with anyone in a similar circumstance. Never forgotten. DANNY

Saw him post on the book of faces not long ago.
He's still fishing, but he's also still fighting a very steep uphill battle with his health.

I had a friend, Marty, that knew Tred and hunted/fished with him a lot. You'll most likely see him if you look at Tred's videos. Marty tragically lost his life in a boating accident. His son fell overboard and Marty jumped in to help him. Became tangled in the anchor line and drowned. His poor son had to witness the whole thing.

I remember one of his shows from before he was incapacitated where he was bow hunting moose in Canada. He was standing inside of some willow brush and this moose passed by the outside of the brush SO close that he could have reached out and touched it!
I'm not a big fan of "hunting" shows...I hate them in fact...but this one had my heart racing!
I wish him well. Hang tough Tred!

He post on his Facebook page from time to time. Back during deer season he posted a pic where he and his girlfriend was out deer hunting. Tred killed a nice little 8 point and she killed a doe. He posted he shot his buck within 20 yards. They shot there deer with a crossbow. He posted that even though he couldn’t use his Longbow he still tried to keep his shots close as if he was using his Longbow and now he sits in blinds since he’s in his wheelchair. Also as posted above he does a lot of fishing and been doing some goose hunting. I always enjoy his shows. I’m 38 years old , Tred Barta and Fred Eichler are the guys who really got me interested in Traditional Archery and give up my compound about 8 or 9 years ago.

It is a shame what happened to Tred, it took the steam right out of him because of Tred I got back into trad archery, and his longbow was my fist bow getting back. I loved watching his hunting videos, best in,the game.

You know....Tred Barta actually made me pause and not be a jerk.
When he was HEALTHY, I didn't care for him. "Why" doesn't matter.
After his health crisis, I have truly admired him,and his courage.I pray that if I were struck down that way I would have the fortitude that he has shown. He is a great example to all men.

I met him once. I liked him.
I also enjoyed his hunting shows.
He's an honest feller from everything I can tell, and his "personal drive" (don't give up) attitude has gained him much respect from me.
Keep on Keepin On Mr. Barta. 8^)

Tred is the reason I took up stickbow, so I check in on how he is doing from time to time.
My sons and I had compound bows only to extend the hunting season. I wasn't interested in the archery at all, it was just the necessary weapon to hunt elk during the rut in Montana.
In 2005 Tred shot a duck in flight with his longbow on film on my neighbor Jerry's lease near Billings. I don't know how they met each other. One evening during that hunt my neighbor knocked on my door and said "this is Tred Barta, and he wants to meet your sons". I had never seen his tv show but I did recognize him from tv ads on outdoor cable channels.
Tred then gave my sons each a recurve bow as well as a dozen wooden arrows he had fletched and tipped himself. We had dinner and talked hunting and stickbows all night. He had recently shot a grizzly in BC with his longbow and told us all about the hunt.
Anyway, he inspired us; we all took up stickbow and started watching his tv show. Now we are in it for the archery challenge as well as elk rut season - still working to be good at it someday.
But that was nothing compared to how much he inspires now. It was so tragic years later to hear his news and yet so uplifting to see how he thrives. Thanks for starting this topic; hopefully Tred will see it.

What most of you don't know about Tred is his Tuna fisherman experience in the far NE Canyons along the East coast he ran a custom boat Makara and was a Maverick in the big eye tuna scene up north all along the 100 fathom curve.
Same time Tred was in the up north Canyons my father and I were in the southern ones on the big eyes and we would hear some story's of the bites he had.
My father was a Maverick also but never bow shot or hunted with the bow. He thought it was stupid until he saw me shooting and killing things. He was deer and pheasant hunter. Tred hunted everything and I admired that.
I love Tred and pray for him and was sad when Annie left. Tred as as hard as they come and was disliked by many Captains because they were jealous.

Hopefully one doesn't have to "scrap for their life" to be agreed or disagreed with in a respectful manner. Such as many are though. Seems anymore we only come together on a disaster or life threatening crisis or so it seems anymore, kind of scary when one gives deeper thought to it.

ITS ALL SCARY ANYMORE AND MAKE YOU DOWNRIGHT ANGRY ALL THAT'S GOING ON AND THEN WE GET THESE DECEASES.
SO WHAT DO YOU THINK IT TAKES MENTALLY NOT TO LOAD UP AND GO BANG?
FOR ME IT HAS TAKEN ALL I HAVE TO FIGHT IT AND HAVE FAITH AND TRY TO REALIZE ITS TEMPORAL AND NO MATTER WHAT THE EVIL DISHES OUT I HAVE AN ADVOCATE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT TRED HAS GONE THROUGH ITS NOT LIKE HE CAN GET UP AND WALK AWAY LIKE SO MANY CAN.
ITS HARDER TO FIGHT FOR YOUR LIFE THAN IT IS TO LAY DOWN AND DIE. SOME GOLDEN YEARS THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE TO FACE ADVERSITY EACH DAY AND TAKE IT FOR GRANTED ARE BAIT FOR WOLVES. AND WHO THE HEC'S KNOWS SOME MAY BE WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHS.

What I will always remember about Tred is his motto "Do the work!"
I believe if more of us took that motto to heart in every facet of our lives, not only would our lives be better off for it, but so would those others around us. One thing Tred is NOT is lazy.
That aside I loved his show...in a day and age where most hunting shows are all about the sponsor and pimping their products, Fred's show focused on the HUNT and the wilderness environment of whatever critter he was chasing at the time. Good show!

I hope his support system stays strong. To have this kind of tragedy in ones ones life, lose your wife because of divorce more than likely brought on by this, this is a strain on one's soul. What we see a lot of times in the work that I have done. is in the beginning there is a lot of support, but then it wains. I feel for this man or anyone in this position. It says a lot about a person who perseveres through this type of life changing event and strives to live on. DANNY

Here's Tred and Annie being entertained by a hula dancer at our club house when they came to Hawaii to shoot an episode hunting for hogs. He gave an informative seminar on shooting the longbow. Afterwards we had dinner then he and Annie took the time to sign our bows. I've enjoyed watching his hunts whether successful or not. Tred was the real deal imo.
