let me make it a little easier.

1) Go to bowsite.com. It's the sister site to leatherwall. 2) On bowsite.com, the default forum is the "big game forum" there is a thread titled "Anybody know this lady?" 3) Open the thread and learn a little about Doreen Wilber. Very impressive accomplishments.

Really interesting considering I was also shooting in that era but without the success she had. She was 14 years older than I was but she didn't get her first bow until age 27 in 1957. I got mine at age 11 in 1955. She shot Olympic and I shot barebow. She shot a 505 out of 560 possible points field archery score to capture the women's national title.

I googled her and the recap of her come from behind Olympic gold medal victory was amazing.

Hi Scott. I've posted about Doreen Wilbur here several times, but she doesn't get much of a look. She was the best in the business for awhile up to and including our reentry to the Olympics in 1972 when she won Women's Gold.

There are a lot of women from our archery history that were both top notch target archers and bowhunters. Start with Bing or Google and search for: Ann Clark, Carol Meinhart, Nancy Myrick, Luann Ryon, Ann Butz, Babe Bitzenburger, Ann Weber Corby/Hoyt, Midge Dandridge, and many others clear back into the 1940's...and likely further. Or type in 'women archers of note'.

I met Luann Ryon at the Pa. Bowhunter's Festival back in the 1980's. She is another Gold Medalist that is relatively unknown by most archers. The festival that has been in Forksville, Pa., since 1957 has hosted many of the National and World shooters back in the day includind Darrel Pace a two time gold medalist..1976 and 1984, and could have won three in a row had we not boycotted the 1980 Olympics. I'll try to find some articles and photos to share. We need to know these ladies...they are as much a part of our history as the men.

Earliest modern woman I'm aware of to have taken a big game animal with bow.

She packed it out three miles in 1923.

"Miss Billie" Rounsevelle is the second modern woman I've validated to have taken big game with a bow and may be the first modern to take a deer with bow in the state of Louisiana. An event she accomplished in the fall of 1925.
