I have been hunting with Border stuff since 2012. First with Hex 6 limbs that are now on my 25" Tempest indoor target bow. I have also had Covert Hunter but I like the ILF stuff better. Now hunting with either a 19" Phenolic CH ILF or 19" Tempest and Hex 7.5 limbs at about 47#@29".

The CH should be quieter than an ilf Tempest setup.

I've had a border recurve for over 10 years. Incredible bows, but I find I prefer longbows more often than not. I should sell it as it just doesn't get used like it should.

The Tempest can be quieted down nicely. I don't hear much difference between my phenolic and tempest riser with the same limbs. Bolt downs are usually a little quieter depending on how you set them up. I am now using a fixed crawl and can adjust tiller to counteract that.

6.5s a few years ago.
I’ve hunted with the tempest last year (Morrison and hex 8s).
I’ve hunted with the wood ILF and Hex 8s last year also.

I had one for a couple yrs and hunted with it some, sold it because I got to where I couldn't shoot due to shoulder/neck problems.. very nice bows to hunt with smooth drawing and with the deep hooks they are easier to shoot from tree stand.

I had a Border Black Douglas about 30 years ago that I used a few years. Fellow bugged the crap out of me until I sold it to him sometime in the early 90's. They were fine bows then and I suspect they are fine bows now. I got mine by trading a Bear takedown for it at the West Virginia Bowhunter Festival.

I have a Black Douglas, 51 @30 with Hex 5H limbs. Took it to my trad league shoot last night so a friend could shoot it. He had never heard of Border. His draw is close to if not more than 30"s. He could not believe how smooth the shot sequence was for a 50# bow, along with the workmanship.
I was going to try to sell it, but my son has expressed an interest in trying trad shooting, and since he's 6'4"s, this bow might just be perfect for him. Although, after shooting it last night, I might let him use another recurve I have. Even at my 27" draw, it really moves an arrow. If you've never shot a Border, you need to if ever you get the chance. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
To answer the poster's question, no, I have never hunted with a Border but I think I might just give it a go this coming season.
