I was stranded Up North Der under 38" of snow with 2" of ice as a base. For a week straight I couldn't get out of the driveway. Yet, the doorbell rang and my bowshootin Buddy had some arrows he wanted to sell. Imagine that..

So, he says that he found a couple hundred plus cedar arrows at a rummage sale this past Fall..he was told that they were several years old, deceased husband had an archery shop. He bought them for just about nothing and offered me 100 for $70.
I thought what spine/weight/does it really matter. He was out to raise some $$ and I needed to make a decision right now. I bought em.
Now I need to go back and read checking arrow spine/wood arrows. I think I made a goood deal.

Well, these guys know I always travel with beer. If there's a will there is a way.
Anyhow, I just took an interest in trying my hand at building my own wood arrows. So, I couldn't help but think of the irony that these arrows found their way to my door in the middle of a snow emergency.

Spine check them and trade off the ones that will not work for you. No way you could beat that price.

Well, I gotta admit, after 5 days of temperatures below zero and then the ice and snow, I was living on whiskey, olives and Busch Light and whatever was in the can goods in the cupboard. Sardines, Hormel chili, tuna and soup...when the doorbell rang I was hoping it was Meals on Wheels. Or a stripper who had slid off the road and needed a place to bunk up or something.
But, still, the arrow deal was the best of the adventure and thought I would throw it out there. Good day All :)

This spine testing stuff is a curious business. Maybe calling around at archery shops to see if they could test the shafts for me makes the most sense. Other than that, experimenting with point weight might be a simple man's test from one of several bows hanging on the wall.

Got a dial indicator and a couple of nails? Deflection is measured in thousandths of an inch. A simple chart will convert that into pounds of spine. About all you really need.
