Hi All, I’m waiting in a new to bow which is an A&H at 43#. I’m having trouble trusting the Stu Miller calculator of which I find usually quite good in getting an arrow close. I only shoot wood. The bow is cut past centre and I understand that I will need a stiffer static spine above the usual 5# to 10# more that I usually go to with a 125 grain up front. However with this setup the cal is telling me I need a 65# spine. What are your thoughts please?

I have kinda the same setup mine is a Dryad 43# ACS past center shot The arrows that shot good are 65-70 11/32” Believe or not on my carbon I got to use 400 spine

I have a 36# A&H that I love by the way. I only shoot 600 spine carbons with 175 gr points. I think you will find your bow is very forgiving when it comes to spine. I can shoot a variety of different arrows that fly well but if I buy new arrows I go to the 600 because of the speed factor. Enjoy your new bow.

Sunnycoast. That's pretty close. An ACS is a high performance bow , it uses low-stretch string and it's cut well past center. That's a set up that calls for a lot of spine. I usually build out the side plate a bit on my ACSs. You want the tip of the arrow to lie outside of the string when the arrow is in the bow, not bisecting the string or pointing to the right for a right hand shooter. The latter two will give you inconsistent arrow flight.

As a general rule, I've found it better to err on the high side regarding spine. Most bows will shoot overspined arrows just fine. Not so much underspined arrows.

The absolute BEST bet is to order a test kit in the spines the arrowsmith suggests. Then shoot them and decide which spine works best for YOU.

Good topic, as I just bought 45lb limbs for my new to me A&H. I draw 28.5” and my arrows are cut to 29.5”. I have not had much time to play around with it, but as said earlier, it seems to be pretty forgiving on arrow choices. So far it looks like Whispering Wind 59-63 spine and 2016 aluminum fly the best. I may try to build out the strike plate like Orion mentions and see what that does. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. mg

Thanks mg, I usually have a ton of shafts lying around to try out but I’ve recently had a clean out buy making up sets for friends. I intend buy following the Stu Miller recommendation on spine and bare shafting until I’m happy with the flight. However I’m sometimes surprised by the length I’m out buy. I’ve never had a bow cut past centrehence I was seeking others experiences. I thank you all and let you know what length I end up with.

Regards
