How many remember the Colorado Trad Bow Camp that was started by Robert "Crossed Arrows" Smith and his son Chris "Longbowsmith"? It was to get VETS back into the woods and help them heal.

I had a wonderful time and have got a strong desire to go back. Its Traditional only archery on Public Land in Colorado. I'm thinking about looking into the cost; over the counter either sex tag, lodging, food and travel expenses.

I turn 50 this month and want to go before my back and knees won't let me go up and down those mountains.

Hey Andy, how goes it..I'm still roaming around the ridges out there...FYI, either sex tag in 2018 was $661.00 plus $10.00 Habitat stamp, cow elk was $496.00. I have 3 friends going with me this year. I am the only traditionalist, but they are good ole boys and hunt from dawn to dark...

I used to stay in a tent behind the truck. I will stay at a motel and drive 40 minutes instead this year.

rawdawg, yes these were the yurt hunts. And yes you could go out the door and start hunting and seeing animals.

I am already making my plans, and getting into shape. I need to lose 50 pounds and build my stamina. The last time I went was 2010 and I had only been home from Iraq for about 8 months and was still in good shape.

Never went but supported them by donating and buying raffle tickets. Won a take down Bear bow in one of the raffles and then I passed it on to another raffle. Would have like to made that trip once. Looked like a great bunch.

Jon, it was a good bunch and we had some great vet. heroes that were the main purpose of the hunt. We along with donations from people like yourself made it possible for 6-8 veterans of Irag and Afganistan just home from combat to partake in a traditional elk hunt. I was lucky in that I got to hunt with some great guys and able to chase elk on my own. All of this was the idea of a fellow whose name doesn't need mentioning since everyone involved in the hunt knows that he made it possible and made the initial invite to all of us...along with his wife he stayed in camp for the duration and cooked for the entire crew, which was thirty plus hungry guys the first year. Thank you again Robert. We had guys from all over come to hunt, like Tom Colstad, editor of TradArchers' World magazine, who also gave discounts to anyone donating items for our raffles. A past "California Longbow Champion" Green Beret whom I will never forget, along with Andy from the above post, himself a vet. Yes, it was a great campfire group with lots of stories and I am extremely proud to have been a small part of it.

There was so much comraderie and talking between the vets. It was a peaceful return to life.

Is this at the Yurts in the Colorado State Park (forest) in North park south east of Walden?

I am not sure Ralph, I have not heard from him in several years. He got caught in a big fire up in Poudre Canyon few years back and had to stay in Cheyenne in a motel I think for about a month till things got back to normal. Not sure how much damage was done to his property, but he did have to evacuate due to the fire. I was thinking about him just the other day..I gave him an invite few years ago to hunt with us but he could not make it.

Yes Longcruise you are correct.
