So I picked up a Yellowstone renegade flatbow ! Absolutely gorgeous and a good shooter . Bought off the footed shaft so don’t know if previous owner had it made for 3 under or split . I shoot 3 under but it makes an awful twang when I do so , but if I Shoot it split its very quiet . So I’ll zero tiller it and see if that helps but if it was made for split will it matter ? A pic or two as well .

Nice looking bow. Just check the tiller at the fades. I/8" or so positive tiller ...split finger. I don't shoot 3 under, but every bow I ever tried it on was very loud!

Agree, tiller matters.

You are always going to have a bit more noise 3 under. Just raise your nocking point a tad. And split to 3 under tiller is very close to each other. Alot of big name bowyers say the average person can not tell the difference.

3 under bows like a zero to 1/8th negative tiller.

Never seen any real difference in tiller when shooting three under. (20 plus bows), Always seem a bit louder but usually minimal when retuned. Usually raise nock point a bit and play with brace height...…. All bows I shoot have ended up at about 9/16 above for nock point. Use two nocks. Just picked up a second Predator and set it up that way, grabbed some 2018s and had it tuned in about 10 mins. Just had to twist up the string a bit....

I shoot three under and have had several bows that HATED that method of releasing the string. I suspect you "can" shoot a bow that is tillered for split just fine, if you tweak the BH and NP. I have always found it better to have one tillered properly. It will be quieter and shoot better for you. ILF rigs can really open your eyes to the differences tiller adjustments make in a given bow. I suspect that not everyone will experience the same results due to body shape and draw lengths, but for me.....I want a bow tillered for my method of shooting. For ME it seems to make a difference.

Chuck, It probably is tillered for split finger shooter. You can measure from the end of fadeout of the riser and the string on both the top and bottom limbs, if tillered for split fingers, the top limb should be about 1/8” to 3/16” greater distance than the bottom limb. If tillered for three under the distance should be about even. I don’t remember if the bow you have was an order bow or one I had in stock, but I think it was one I sold from stock, if so it should be tillered for split finger. I think most bows will be a littler louder shooting three fingers under. You maybe could add some different string silencers, raise the brace height a little, maybe nock point a little higher, arrow could be hitting the shelf, different spine arrow etc. The Renegade bow should be a fairly quiet shooter. Got this response from the bowyer ! Awesome dude !

There were guys shooting 3 under well before bows were built to accommodate such a draw, and that includes many high-level archers in competition. A lot of bowhunters killed many deer also with positive tillered bows. I wouldn't mess with changing the bow, rather I would play with tune..raise nock point if needed, adjust brace..maybe a bit higher so you aren't hitting the shelf with the arrow, and you should get it plenty tolerable to the ear and for hunting.

Thanks George Yes I think the noise I may be hearing is the arrow hitting the shelf , even though I’m 1/8” high from center . recommended brace is 6 1/2” and think I will try 7” .

Another thing you can do is put an elevated rest on the bow.

I have evolved over the last 10 years to shooting everything 3 finger split simply because that gets me the quietest results. If you wish to shoot 3 under be prepared for issues with getting the bow quiet.

You already considered this no doubt, but if the noise is coming from arrow against shelf that suggests something about the arrow.
