I wanted to see if anyone has had an experience like mine. (I shoot right handed)

Three weeks ago, I had to do some outdoor winter chores and my right glove got wet.

My glove got wet and I thought my hand was just cold but when I got in and took my glove off, my right middle finger was swollen and had no feeling from the last joint, out to the tip.

I carefully warmed it.

It didn't turn any color etc., like you would expect with severe frost bite.

For the 1st week or so, it was numb like dental freezing.

This improved and now it is just the tip of the finger.

It chills easy but color is good and it stays warm if I am inside.

I know not everyone here is a doctor, or plays one on TV, but has anyone had a similar experience?

The worst I’ve ever had was the opposite. Fingers ached like heck for a couple of days.

Yeah, this one hurt for the 1st day.

Crazy thing is, when I was out, I thought it was just cold.

Lesson learned, won't let that happen again.

I had frostbite on the skin over both cheekbones. It hurt quite a bit as it thawed out. I hope you regain the feeling in your hands. Severe cold is no joke...bye for now

It has been so bad here that all of my fingers on both hands have been frostbitten multiple times. Along with my cheekbones and both ears ,even wearing TWO stocking caps. My hands have hurt for over a week now. I have to be out in this crap everyday, tending to animals and getting the wife's truck running and getting her through the snowbanks and out to the road at 4:00 AM every morning. One of our poor cats had half of an ear fall off!,and that was several days after I made her stay inside. Shooting is out of the question. Every time I go through the hassle of shoveling out a path to my target it snows another foot with high winds. I finally gave up! Got everything cleared off again today because it is a balmy -2...They are predicting another storm tonight and all day tomorrow!

You had frost nip not frost bite. Put aloe vera on it several times a day.

Just so happens we have a large Aloe plant in the sun room, giving it a try :)

That and ibuprofen.

I ended up with frostbite 25 years ago in my hands I peed on them and reduced the frost bite to just the tips.

Old bayman told me years ago that that works if you got caught out on the bay and got wet on a freeze up.

Not good, our spoiled varmints stay inside, even if this girl looks pretty well equipped for winter weather.

I'm in SBs neck of the woods. It has been terrible! Tonight, I found and fed all 11 strays cats. None have lost body parts yet, lol! I built them super warm houses and went out, nightly, to put 18 hour chemical warmers in them. It works like a charm, even without the warmers! My biggest problem has been tearing eyes. I take out my scope and tears start dripping from my eyes as I try to observe, lol! No shooting at all. RymanCat needs to be placed in foster care as soon as possible!

Let it heal before shooting. It's damaged, don't damage it further.

All of my fingertips have been frozen, where they stayed white and hurt for a day or so. That was over 45 years of cutting meat. Now the problem is my fingertips get very cold within minutes of being outside in the cold. Once that happens, I’m done as the only way they’ll warmup is getting inside and warming naturally. I’m still looking for that pair of gloves that will keep them warm. The chemical heaters don’t cut it for me. Electrically heated gloves are ridiculously expensive. I’ll find a pair that’ll work eventually, but not yet.

Mike, have you tried one of those 'mufflers' that strap around your waist? Shove hands in with warmers. Some folks swear by them.

FYI, it is early yet, but the Aloe seems to be helping :)

Good news! There is a big difference between frost bite and frost nip. Just keep the aloe on there several times a day and take Ibuprofen 3 times a day (600 mg at a time) for inflammation and you should have improvement and back to normal in a week or so.

"There is a big difference between frost bite and frost nip."

Yeah, I used frost bite in the subject line because I wasn't if most would respond to frost nip.

Fortunately it never turned scary colors, like you see if you do a search for frost bite.

Going to keep with the treatments, and be a lot more savy and careful going forward from here.
