I would really like some insight into something I cant explain. I shoot a longbow with sight window cut 1/8 outside of center. My poc 70-75 fly perfectly and impact where I am looking. Now, when I switch to my 400 spine carbons,which also paper tune extremely well, then my groups shift about 6 inches to the right of where the woodies are grouping. Same dia grouping,just 6 inhes to the right. Any idea why this is so? Does it relate to dynamic spine and the way the different shaft materials flex around the handle and the way they recover? If my hair wasnt so short I would be pulling it out in bunches allready. Thanks regards Hunt

Shaft diameter as said above, carbon skinnier so closer to center.
Also a 400 spine is quite a bit stiffer like 20# spine.

You don't tell us bow weight, or your draw length, or string type. If we have that information then we can maybe answer the question. You left out a lot of dynamics.

Your changing your center shot quite a bit going from wood to carbon. Yeah what George Said, give all of us the specs of your bow so we can all learn.

Thanks for the answers so far. My longbow is 50lb @ 28 inch draw, I draw 28 inches and both types of arrows are cut to 30". I use a ff string, 18 strands.
The narrower dia of carbon being closer to center makes sense, but in testing I make sure to sight down the arrow to make 100% sure that both are pointing to the spot im trying to hit. In other words, if the arrow dia is 2 inches or 2mm in theory if they are both tuned and both are aimed directly to target then surely they should both hit the same point?

If your right handed, hitting right indicates weak spine/nock left. Yes if both are spined correctly they should hit the same vertical line. Reduce point weight and see what happens.

"If" you are getting excellent flight, then it's the diameter of the shaft causing the differenced. A quick check would be to stick a piece of Velcro or something else on the arrow plate to move the arrow out, then try again. I know that FF can radically affect spine well more than Dacron. It changes my bows at least one spine.

We still need to know if you're righty or lefty.
Before all your hair is gone, you might want to MEASURE the static spine of your woodies and carbons. Then you'd have a good comparative starting point.
Off topic, but how a true 0.400" deflection of a carbon shaft equates to 20# more than 70-75# is a mystery to me. 0.400" should yield 78-79 pounds.

The woods spine.420 and the carbons spine .400 static spine.but I use a heavier point on the carbons.Im right handed.
I am going to try the velcro tip and see what happens. Thanks for the advice so far
