For you that use tomahawks to clear brush, shooting lanes, and camping I have a question for about the Cold Steel Trail hawk. Besides the paint job and needing sharpened. I have the Pipe Hawk and really like it. My question about the Trail Hawk is there any real advantage to it compared to the Pipe Hawk? I know it is smaller both in weight and blade edge. They both have blade and hammer poll. I keep looking at the Trail Hawk and keep wondering if I would use it if I bought it as a functional tool being in the woods. Just looking for opinions should I or shouldn't I purchase one. Don't really want to waste the money buying it just to have it laying around. No where around here carries them for me to see in person. Yeah I also know, you can never have to many Hawks. DANNY

Don't have any "hawks" but I have hatchets, and one with a sheath that is easy to carry. That said, it never goes with me for several reasons. I mostly hunt public land where hacking trails or shooting lanes is verboten. If you're hunting your own land all the time then I can see it as more useful. Any other land I hunt is someone else's property and I don't do any whacking there either. Your mileage may vary of course.

I have the CS Pipe Hawk and I wouldn't think to get the Trail Hawk for wood work - less cutting edge, less weight as you said. Attached is a picture of my hawk and my Hudson Bay CT hatchet. Both have their pros and cons but if you want the Trail Hawk, go for it. Don't try to justify the buying, just get it and enjoy the feeling.

I always wanted to get a throwing hatchet.

There are some nice hawks Frank. I especially like the red one.

I use a small plumb axe as any tomahawk device i have used was too light weight for sustained use. CRKT has a dandy advertised and was on sale that looks to be slightly more functional. I have no experience with the ones you mentioned, but offer this as an opinion. I do own and throw’hawks foe fun, and they are fun

Elm Handle in this one. If you toss them, someone will eventually ruin a handle. I LOVED the bo'dark I was using, but all things can break. I have had this hawk for a while, and I can't think of needing another.

Thought I should add, while I only have the one Hawk, I may have 6 different axes. To each there own large cutting edge. :D

You can certainly throw a hatchet or axe as well, but there's just something about a nice hawk!

I have two Trail Hawks. I was given one as part of a prize package in a give away on YouTube. The other I traded for to do some modifications to it. I like the balance of the Teail Hawk. It works well for small to medium chopping jobs and I have no doubt it would work well in a self defense situation.
