Has anyone tried Alpaca wool for their string silencers? I wear alpaca wool socks and skull cap ant they seem to wear very well.

Yes and I make my own. They work great IMO,they puff up nice with just a few plucks of the string.I bought my alpaca wool yarn off Ebay and made a simple jig for making them up.Though a jig is not really necessary but nice.

I have been using Alpaca wool for about ten years. Very effective and long lasting

I've tried it on a couple of bows but don't think it works as well or is as durable as regular yarn puffs.

I was just about to say - Penny Banks makes & uses string silencers from alpaca wool, and swears by them.
I see he beat me to it. 8^)

I have a gallon ziplock bag of alpaca woo. How do you make silencers out of it?

A friend of mine raises them. Never thought of using their wool. Thanks

Penny sent me some a couple of years ago. I haven't used it yet, but can see where it would work just fine.
He says you have to comb it (or something like that) in order to use it. Maybe he'll chime in with a how to.
