Does anyone use the regular Gorilla glue for attaching their points to POC shafts ? Is it heat reversible ?

Gorilla glue will expand and push the points off the shaft. I know this from experience.

I use it like it. Points stay on and will come off with heat.

No use hot melt

Big Jim's hot melt works great and easy to use and the points stay on. I use it on carbon, alum., and wood with very good results. And you can remove points easy with heat.

I use the Gorilla Super Glue with the blue cap ( Impact-Tough ). Been using it for about two years with no problems at all. When I want to get a point off I heat the point up with a lighter and it comes right off. Also when you put a point on the arrows it dries quickly and is ready to shoot in 30 seconds. I usually let it dry a full minute.

I found it gets brittle when it dries. Tried it, didn’t like it.

X2 with soldier on the regular Gorilla glue.

My question is why, when you have good glue in hot melt that is easily removable. My points hold on my woods arrows with low temp, cheap hot melt glue. I haven't lost a point yet since learning how to use it wisely. Most folks who struggle with it likely use too much and just push the points on creating air gaps.

Just a very thin coat of hot melt and a point that is pushed on and turned several times will seat with glue all around the taper and hold as good as any other glue. I can't imagine using something that can't be removed in the field easily with heat.

Because I have a big bottle of it I bought for something else and I am low on Ferrule Tite and I just finished and fletched a dozen POC arrows and want to get the points on them so I can shoot them :^)

I used it once. I learned to wet the wood taper and use the glue sparingly cause it expands the points off. I just find hot melt, Big Jim’, ferrule tite, easier to use. Don’t really change points on wood arrows. If I wanted to do that I would get some of those screw in adapters.

Gorilla Glue (The Orange Label stuff) works, and works very well.

But, as others have mentioned, it will push the points off as it expands, so you have to anchor them.

I anchor them with a couple of tiny drops of super glue (DAP Rapid Fuse now days), and they stay put while the Gorilla Glue dries.

After that, they stay put until you want them off. And, FWIW there's not a hot melt anywhere from anyone that holds as well.

Works great for both inserts & outserts on aluminums & carbons also.

Yes, it is heat reversible.

I do a few things before I Ferr L Tite my points on. I clean the inside of the point with acetone to remove any oils left from machining the point and then I use an old tap and screw it into the point to give the glue something to hold on to. I then acetone the inside of the point again, dry and hot melt the point on.

Ken use hot melt. It is designed for the job.

Hot melt/Ferrule Tite adhesives that must be heated during application will most often tend to push the points off your arrows (heat expansion is funny that way). If you hold them on with pliers for 30 seconds or so they'll usually cool enough to stay put.

Gorilla Glue also expands (foam expansion/moisture activated), even if not heated. Wiping off the extra and hanging a boot over the point/leaning it against the wall, or clamping the point in place with a C-clamp for a few minutes, will keep the tip on until dry enough to not move. And yes, it does hold well for points.

If you want tips to stay on 'permanently', after gluing the point on drill a hole laterally through it and the taper, about a 1/4" up from BOP, then push a brad nail through the hole, cut it flush and file both ends flat. The point will stay on even if the glue bond weakens.

I like black rubberized 'impact' glue but it can be messy and I've had no luck 'reversing' it.

3 Rivers used to sell some awesome hot melt glue, harder, higher temp stuff if I recall correctly. Wasn't archery-specific but worked great. Not a fan of Ferr-L-Tite.

I have it from a good source that Gorilla Glue White is actually the same as "Insert Iron". It does not seem to foam like the original stuff, holds well, and releases with heat. Based on a couple of year's trials, I think it works fine.

From: Rick Barbee

Tom, I have both the "Bohning Insert Iron", and the Orange Label "Original Gorilla Glue".

The look/color, feel/texture, and even the smell of them are practically identical. They both foam/expand while they cure, and take about the same amount of time to set up completely.

I honestly can't tell any difference in them. I use the Gorilla Glue, because it is generally cheaper, and comes in a larger bottle.

`````````
The "Gorilla Glue White", is simply another version of CA glue. I used it quite a bit for fletching, until I found DAP Rapid Fuse.
I even used the "Gorilla Glue White" some for inserts, but have not been near as satisfied with it as I am with the Gorilla Glue Orange Label.
Rick Sure could be true. I just never noticed a problem with it. I have a bottle of Rapid Fuse as well, but never tried it on inserts.
I use the best grade I can find of hot melt from the hardware store. Jawge
From: Rick Barbee
Tom, I haven't used the Rapid Fuse for points, or inserts, but I bet it would hold them very well. It's much better glue than the Blue Tip Gorilla Blue White.
Don't know if it would be easily heat reversible though.
`````````````

I glued some carbon balls to the surface of some stainless steel with the Rapid fuse, to use them as some elastic strap anchors.

I did counter sink the balls a tiny bit into shallow drilled concaves in the steel. They are still holding great.

I tried it with other glues (including the Gorilla White), and the balls would not stay.

I use it and have not had points get pushed off the shaft due to expansion. If anything a couple of points have broken off right behind the point with the POC point taper still inside.

Ken you answered the question of why you were using it and am wondering if you are going to continue using heat melt or switch to tube glues after trying it. I can see the tube glues being as good or better but any of you taken a point off and reinstalled it and does it clean up on the arrow and point good enough to re glue back over it.

Going to keep using the Gorilla Glue. Read Rick’s post above about how to keep it from pushing the points off. It is a important step.
