Folks, the 15th Howard Hill Classic will be May 31, June 1 & 2, 2019.

There will be some very exciting changes made this year and I'll be letting you know very soon what they will be.

But I will say one of the BIGGEST will be that the IBO Mid America will also be at Tannehill as well.

MUCH MORE TO COME!!!

Folks, I've been working with Levy Bryant, with the IBO, and discussing the IBO Divisions.

This year's Howard Hill Classic will be adding divisions to coincide with the IBO. For example there now will be a Recurve Unlimited Class as well as others.

There are other exciting announcements coming.

Terry Harris

From: BigB

Do you have a "Not Enough Time to Practice" class? Thats the one I need to be in....lol Looking forward to the shoot even if my score card will look bad.

Brandon, that's funny, but wait.......what am I thinking, I need that class as well.

Folks, as those of you know and have been to my events, I've had tremendous support from Vendors as well as outstanding bowyers donating items and bows to help raise money, not only for Camp Jack Wright, but Children's Harbor and one year I raised nearly $4,000. for The Wounded Warrior Project.

All said and done, I've raised and donated over $50,000.00 for these great organizations.

I hope to get great support again this year, and one such outstanding Bowyer has already committed a "one of a kind" bow to this year's Howard Hill Classic.

Tim Mullins with Acadian Woods Bows will be making this bow for me to raffle and when the bow is made, we'll be putting photos of the bow here for all to see.

Here's one of the major changes for this year's Howard Hill Classic.

In addition to the Divisions that have always been in place, here are some added Classes to coincide with the IBO.

Men's & Women's Recurve Unlimited Men's Modern Longbow Men's Sr. Traditional

The Men's Modern Longbow will allow three piece takedowns, wood, carbon & aluminum arrows.

Men's Longbow will consist of allowing the takedown (breaking down at the handle) and wooden arrows only.

The Men's Sr Traditional ( 62 years & older) allows all arrows

Men's Sr wood arrows only.

There may be other changes after finalizing thing with Levy Bryant with the IBO.

Should be exciting!!

Folks, all in all, there will be 15 classes for competition at this year's Howard Hill Classic.

FIVE of these have never been here before. As I said earlier, if the IBO has it, I'm trying to coincide so when you come and have a class that hasn't been here before, it will be here now.

I'll also be displaying the newly designed Howard Hill Classic plaque pretty soon, I believe you will really like it.

I'll also be displaying a photo of the 1st Place Belt Buckles.

For the of you that have never been to the Howard Hill Classic, I feel you're in for a tremendous time shooting your bow.

On my Howard Hill Classic course, I've always tried to set up a challenging, yet fun course. Good hunting shots, set up for left & right handed archers. I also try and make sure that the limbs on that archers bow won't be striking anything in it's way.

NOW, you might come up to a stake on a few targets and look down to the target and say, "part of the kill zone is covered". Don't worry, with a foot on the shooting stake, you might have to adjust or lean over just a little, but I always have the entire kill zone wide open. TAHT'S WHAT REAL HUNTING SHOTS LOOK LIKE, RIGHT!?

Come, you'll not regret it.

Hi everyone, I started another thread about pesky gnats at our archery events.

"Folks, for those of you that have been to the Howard Hill Classic in June, there has been a problem with gnats.

I really believe I have found a solution to help solve this problem for you.

At this year's Howard Hill Classic, I'll have bandanas and bug spray I'll give you free.

I've worn a bandana for years, while being out on the range all day putting out targets and never had gnats get in my face.

I spray the front of my bandana and the gnats stay away from my face.

If you spray you hat rim or cap bill it also works."

Now I know there are many other remedies that many of you use, I'm just trying to offer a solution for you, FREE.

I'd like to thank Heather with "Planet Apparel" who has given me an outstanding price on the bandanas so I can give them to you.

Just to help clarify: Archers may shoot the Howard Hill Classic course, which their first round total is to qualify for the Saturday evening shootdown. Archers can then shoot the Howard Hill course as many times as they like to improve their score for the Howard Hill Classic awards. Archers can also shoot the IBO Championship course one time, with peers, for the Mid-America Championship awards. The IBO will hold shotgun starts on Friday, & Saturday @ 8am and 12pm, and on Sunday at 8am. So plan your schedule accordingly to shoot both courses. Your IBO 40 target score will determine your place for Mid-America awards. (There is no IBO peer grouping on Sunday like @ the world championships) Don't miss the Last Man Standing event, time to be announced, as this weekend at the East Coast Championship, the archers had so much fun, they wanted to shoot it every day. lol Can't wait Terry, this will be a great shoot for all skill levels, and archery enthusiasts.

From: Tal McNeill
Date: 18-Feb-19

Looking forward to it!

Shana: Just to make sure I'm clear on the IBO Mid-America, will we shoot one 40 target course, or two 20 target courses?

Thanks.

From: THarris
Date: 18-Feb-19

Tal, if I'm not mistaken, there will be two IBO 20 target course.

NOW, let me clarify in case there was some confusion about qualifying for the Championship Shoot Down..

At some other IBO events, there has been what is called a "Hunters Challenge" course you'd have to shoot if you wanted to qualify for the Saturday Championship Shoot Down.

There won't be a "Hunters Challenge" course, the "Howard Hill Classic" course will be THAT course one will have to shoot to qualify for the Shoot Down.

So, every class will be represented at the Howard Hill Classic, your 1st round automatically puts you into the competition to see if you qualify for the Shoot Down, as well as enters for into the Howard Hill Classic competition.

When you register at the HH Classic table, there will be an all day shooting fee (if you just want to shoot one day) or special weekend rates for singles and families. These rates entitle you to shoot either all day or all weekend.

After your 1st round, you don't have to stop there. You can continue to shoot the Howard Hill Classic to improve your HH Classic score if you'd like or just shoot for fun, YOUR CHOICE.

From: Tal McNeill
Date: 18-Feb-19

Thanks, Terry. I assumed it would be 2x20 courses but thought I'd better confirm. Booking my vacation time now!

From: THarris
Date: 18-Feb-19

Great Tal, wouldn't be the same if you weren't here.

Terry Harris

From: Bownana
Date: 18-Feb-19

Yes Tal, there are two courses on the IBO side, course A and course B. You can shoot them both in one day, or split them up. You must show up at 8am or 12pm Friday and Saturday, or 8am on Sunday to be grouped for the IBO shoot. There is no Sunday finals like at the World Championship. Your score on the 40 targets will determine your placement for the awards. Very glad you are coming to the shoot. It will be lots of fun.

From: THarris
Date: 20-Feb-19

THarris's embedded Photo

Thanks Shana,

BTW folks, when you enter Tannehill Historical during business hours, you'll be greeted by the friendly Park gate keeper.

If you're camping, there's no other fee to enter the Park. If you're not camping in the Park, you'll pay a one time fee and then pick up a Park Pass from our registration area some you can come and go as you please.

If you come after hours, you can set up your camping and then go to the General Store the next morning and pay to camp then.

Terry Harris

Wow, GREAT NEWS for you men & women self bow shooters. Even though I've always had those two self bow classes at the HH Classic, The IBO has not, especially for the women. But maybe in the future for both, in the meantime, here's a pretty good idea.

Levy Bryant with the IBO, has just let me know that there will be a men and women's self bow shoot down on Saturday afternoon, time yet to be announced. There will also be some sort of 1st place prize, also yet to be determined.

NOW, you don't have to turn in any kind of score, JUST BRING YOUR SELF BOWS and you're in, EXCITING!!!

Bownana, posted this on another thread.

"Arvin Weaver is once again offered to sponsor the Self Bow Shootout at the IBO Mid-America / Howard Hill Classic! $250 cash with an Arvin Weaver custom self bow to be raffled. The proceeds from the raffle go into the cash prize total for the winners. Thanks Arvin. That’s going to be an awesome shootout. Bring your selfbows and get ready to have some fun. The question has been asked and now answered.

"IBO membership is not required to shoot the Mid-America Championship. Of course the IBO would love for everyone to become members to support and protect our right to bow hunt."

The 1st Place shooters will be splitting $250.00 to start but Arvin Weaver has generously donated one of his outstanding self bows to be raffled off and the proceeds from the raffle will also be added to the $250.00.

NOW, will all that being said, there is a woman competitor, can really shoot, has informed Levy Bryant, that she can get as many as TWENTY WOMEN self bow shooters to compete. Sh'e been trying to get the IBO to have a Women's Self Bow class in the IBO for years.

I know who she is and I must say the ball is in her court. Let's show Levy that YOU CAN BRING IT GIRL, LOL.

There's so much to do while you're here, BUT, with the IBO putting together some of the activities, you'll be worn out, LOL

There will be SEVERAL different shoot downs folks.

A Sadie Hawkins event where a female archer gets to pick her male partner, could be one or more, depending on how many men want participate.

A "Last Man Standing" event, which I've heard is a hoot.

Amen & Women's Self Bow Shoot-Down

And, the Main Showcase Shoot-Down selected from the Qualifying 1st Round Score cards.

Terry, can we use binoculars this year at the Howard Hill shoot? Thanks

From: THarris
Date: 06-Mar-19

This is an issue I'm talking over with Levy. I personally don't like the idea, don't feel they're needed.

If they are allowed, it MUST be where others come upon a grout that is using bingo's, they must let those shooters shoot the target and get ahead of the bio users. My opinion, what's your.

Terry Harris

From: Tal McNeill
Date: 06-Mar-19

Terry:

Since you asked for an opinion...

If the IBO side allows them, the HH side should too. It takes all of 10 seconds and I've usually glassed the target before I get to the stake.

My 57-year-old eyes simply can't make out an 11 ring at 25 yards anymore. It's frustrating to give up points just because someone else (usually someone younger) has better eyesight. I can't count the times I've made what I thought was a perfect shot only to find that the ring wasn't where I thought it was, especially when shooting targets I haven't seen before.

An archer deserves to know what he is trying to hit.

Just my two bits;).

Tal, your two cents is always welcomed and appreciated my friend. You make a very good point.

As long as glass users don't create back ups, I have no problem.

Thanks, Terry. I've always appreciated you reaching out to shooters for input and opinions That's one of the reasons you put on such great shoots. See you there!

Terry we allow them at the Classic and other events, never really caused any problems that I know of , especially on the Trad. side. Now compound folk, that is another story but they are slow anyway. Pappy

From: THarris
Date: 07-Mar-19

Thanks Pappy, and you're right.

Alright everybody, I've explained that the HH Classic is a multi round event with the highest score you turn in counts, no matter if it is your 1st round or your last.

NOW, I'm gonna try and explain a little about how the IBO rounds are to be shot.

There will be FIVE times that IBO shooters can go out to shoot 40 targets.

There will be two times on Friday and it will be shot gun starts: First time will be 8:00am and 11:00am. Saturday will be the same, 8:00am and 11:00am.

On Sunday you can start at 8:00am, but it will not be a shotgun start.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!! As long as you get 40 targets shot, you are finished with the IBO round. You can shoot all 40 on Friday same on Saturday, if you can get them in..

Or you can shoot 20 on Friday & 20 on Saturday.

Or you can shoot 20 Targets on Friday or Saturday and finish your 20 targets on Sunday. AS LONG AS YOU GET 40 TARGETS IN.

All other time can be spent shooting the Howard Hill Classic range if you'd like. WHEW!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to write here, email me or call me.

Terry Harris [email protected] 205-822-3563

From: Bownana
Date: 07-Mar-19

All IBO times are shotgun starts. You will be assigned a stake with your peers. Shotgun starts for the IBO are Friday & Saturday 8am & 11am, and Sunday 8am. You must shoot 40 targets, however you get them in. I suggest shooting all 40, or 20 and 20. IBO course has A & B ranges made up of 20 targets each. It will be a weekend full of shooting our bows. Can't wait.

Let me remind you of the SIX bows that will be raffled off over the weekend.

Arvin Weaver has donated one of his beautiful Self Bows to be raffled off with the proceeds from that to be added with the $250.00 to be split with the Men & Women winners of the Self Bow shoot-down.

Now, the other FIVE to be raffled.

Big Jim has been so generous over many years by donating one of his Custom Longbows.

Bear Archery, another tremendous contributor to the Howard Hill Classic by donating bows for years as well. This year Bear Archery has donated a Bear Montana Longbow and a Bear Super Grizzly Recurve.

Johnathan Karch with 3Rivers has supported me from day one and again he has done so. Johnathan has donated a DAS Recurve.

NOW, I come to my friend Tim Mullins with Acadian Woods Bows. This year, Tim offered to build a "One of a Kind" bow to raffle of at the Howard Hill Classic. I've seen a rough cut video of this bow, all I can say is WOW!!!

Folks, together these bow are worth, not hundreds, BUT THOUSANDS of dollars.

Let me also add, there will only be a limited number of chances for the five bows I have. Each chance is $20.00 and one will be given away at different time TBA during Friday & Saturday.

Folks, I may be wrong but I don't think I've ever heard of this many bows being raffled at Traditional Archery event ANYWHERE!!!

OK, my wife says I'm horrible a giving driving directions, let me see if I can make your experience shooting the IBO/HH Classic easy than I do for driving, LOL.

First, you don't have to join the IBO to shoot the IBO Mid America.

The IBO has two 20 target ranges, Course A & Course B. If you shoot in the IBO competition, you must shoot BOTH COURSES, 40 target total for the IBO competition. The cost is $30.00.

You have 5 different times you can do this. On Friday, the times are 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. On Saturday, the times are 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon. On Sunday, only at 8:00 AM. All times are a shot gun start.

As long as you shoot both courses, it doesn't matter the times YOU choose.

The Howard Hill Classic has 25 targets and the Course opens at 7:00 AM Friday, Saturday & Sunday. If you can only shoot one day, there is an all day fee of $25.00 and you can shoot as many rounds as you can get in. There are special weekend rates for Singles & Families. Fee's for a Single weekend rate are $35.00 and Family rates are $60.00 for a family up to four, living at home. These rates entitle you to shoot as many rounds as you can get in. FOLKS the HH Classic is a multi- round shoot with you highest score you shoot over the course of the weekend counting for your competition.

NOW, if you like to compete with multiple bows, you only have to pay an extra $20.00 per bow, and you can also shoot the different bow as much as you want.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or email.

Folks, there are some good traditional archery events still coming up before the Howard Hill Classic / IBO Mid America dual event.

In two days the Alabama Society of Traditional Bowmen' "Children's Hospital Benefit at Brierfield State Park here in Alabama. This is a good event and raises money for a GREAT cause.

Then, the first weekend in May, 3, 4 & 5, the Twin Oaks Classic. This event is a can't miss event. Not only is this a great event but you can also build that Self Bow you've always wanted (more on that in minute).

On Memorial Day weekend, May 25 & 26, is the Texas Longbow Championship. And for those of that want to REALLY show your skills with a Howard Hill style longbow, THAT'S where you want to be.

NOW, on to the HH Classic / IBO Mid America, May 31, June 1 & 2 at Tannehill State Park in McCalla, AL. Folks, we have so much going on, you don't want to sleep in, rest when ya get home, LOL.

For those of you that built your Self Bow at the Twin Oaks Classic, don't forget to bring 'em for the Men & Women's Self Bow Shoot-Down.

Well folks, I ordered the 25 brand new RINEHART targets for the HH Classic today.

They'll be delivered with the 40 RINEHARTS for the two IBO courses.

I also want to let everyone know that each target on the HH Classic course will be different, no duplicates.

I think everyone will have a blast shooting these outstanding targets.

Folks, while you're here and need to catch your breath from flingin' all those arrows, there is plenty to explore at Tannehill State Park if you're into history.

The museum is a fascinating place to start.

Folks, I haven't mentioned this on the site, but I want everyone to know not to take this site for granted.

I appreciate, as we all should, there is such a site for us to promote traditional archery.

Thanks Phil and the rest for giving us a forum to promote what we all love, traditional archery.

OK, there's gonna be FOUR Shoot Downs at the Howard Hill Classic / IBO Mid America.

What's everyone shooting for?

On Friday, the 1st at 4 PM, is the team shoot with some Lady picking her partner, could be one or more Men. The winning team splits a Cash Prize.

The 2nd at 4:30 PM, is the Last Man Standing, the Winner also gets a Cash Prize and from what I've heard, a pretty cool Trophy.

On Saturday, the 1st is at 4 PM, the Men's & Women's Self Bow Shoot-Down. The two winners split a Cash Prize.

The 2nd is the ShowCase Shoot Down Championship at 4:30 PM. The top 15 Men from the Orange Stake, the Top 15 Men from the White Stake and the Top 15 Women from the White Stake all compete and each have a !st, 2nd & 3rd Place Winner from those three competitions.

NOW, I haven't been told what the 1st Place Winners will receive, but I do know what the 2nd & 3rd will receive. The 2nd Place Winner will have His or Her choice of either a Block Target from Bass Pro Shops, valued at $80.00 or $50.00 donated from American Traditional Archer.

Start practicing y'all.

Rub those sore arms down and ice down those fingers from a wonderful traditional archery event this past weekend.

Just a reminder folks.

The Howard Hill Classic as well as the IBO Mid America are stand alone events.

This means that each have their own awards, the IBO will present their awards on Sunday and the awards won for those that shoot the Howard Hill Classic win have their own awards as well.

The IBO shooters have to shoot a total of 40 targets to win.

The Howard Hill Classic course has 25 targets with those that compete can shoot as many rounds as they can get in with their score CAN improve for the winning scores.

For example: If your highest score is your 1st round, GREAT, but if it isn't as good as you'd like it to be, you can keep shooting with the special weekend rates you pay, and you can possibly improve your score.

Folks, I felt the need to share this with everyone.

I’ve heard of the IBO for years, but it was only recently that I found out that the IBO was a lot more than just an organization involved in putting on archery events where outstanding archers come together for the love of archery.

The IBO stands for the International Bowhunting Organization and is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Bowhunting rights. The IBO distributes tens of thousands of dollars per year to fulfill their mission, to support many like-minded organizations that share the same values and goals. Just recently, the IBO surpassed $250,000 in donations to the Sportsmen’s Alliance who is a great partner in the efforts to protect our way of life.

So, as a reminder, you don’t have to join the IBO to shoot the Mid America or some of their other events, but when you do, you’re helping to protect your own rights.

I'm proud to have the IBO joining me in an effort to bring everyone a truly wonderful opportunity to attend what I think will be an epic event.

Now, with all that said:

GET YER BUTTS IN GEAR AND COME HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!
