Well, I sure will be making plans again. Recently I was wondering what to do with my Cloverdale buttons collected over the years and decided to display them on my bow rack. I fastened them to a nylon strap hanging in the middle in the picture.

I went to check it out for the first time last year. Just went to shop for the day. Will be camping there this year and shooting. Looks like a great shoot. There was some sort of brew haha about scoring, or a rules change at the last minute. I didn't understand what that was all about.

From: Trillium
Date: 16-Jan-19

Jimbob:

In the past, there was plenty of (justified, in my opinion) criticism about folks cheating on the course because there was no double scoring or randomly assigned shooting groups to keep folks honest. While there are many solid and honest shooters who attend, -- most, in fact -- the event has earned a reputation over the years for being "won" by those who have the sharpest pencils. They seem to have made some change over preceding years' rules by having a Sunday "shoot-off," but they also need to make the qualifier round legit in the first place by busting groups and double score cards. Otherwise, it is just another local club fun shoot...

I agree 100%. I won't drive the 5+hours just for a Cloverdale fun shoot when I shoot beautiful club courses every weekend in my own area.... But make it a legitimate competition, and I would probably reconsider.

Thanks for the update.

From: Grumpy Jim

It's a great course and really well laid out. Haven't gone for the past 2 years. Yes, there have been some horrible shooters that turned in some great scores in the past but I hear that they have resolved the problem. Good people and a good club. For those that have cheated in the past, SHAME ON YOU. Some folks have put in the time and effort to legitimatley win only to have a loathesome, shall I say S.O.B. rob them. The sad thing is everyone knew who the cheaters were. They didn't fool anybody.

From: Vaguely
Date: 08-Feb-19

The new rules were sent to the" web-site guy" on the 3rd. so just waiting on the site to be updated. We did add a class in the Men's and Women's divisions. It hopefully will fill a gap between the recurve, longbow, classes and a RU type class. I don't want to get into all the details here and hope they are posted on our site SOON. cloverdaleconservationclub.org

"Adult Classes & Rules for 2019 Traditional Nationals

Modern Traditional Class

Recurve or Longbow–Either bow that uses anyLimb attachment system where Tiller and/or Weight is adjustable.(EX:ILF, DAS, etc.). May be shot off the shelf or use an all plastic arrow rest and any plunger. Arrow rest maybe spaced/ shimmed out to achieve center shot. No adjustments to the arrow rest/ plunger are allowed while on the course. "

Is there a class for overweight Texans?

From: 01ARCHER86
Date: 13-Feb-19

The idea of the Modern Traditional Class does not make any sense. So very few people even bother to shoot such a setup with a plastic flipper and plunger. I mean, I get it. The idea is to appease the masses, BUT why such stipulation? Just make it a World Archery Rules Barebow Class and be done with it. Adding that class alone will increase attendance and participation. Just my 2 cents...

I can't imagine anyone going to Cloverdale just to shoot the practice range, and not shooting the big range, whether for competition or just for fun. It's a fantastic course to shoot, the best in this area. I plan on being there once again this year, have only missed a couple years at Cloverdale. See you there!!

From: Vaguely
Date: 19-Feb-19

Kurt, Any and all of the changes we have made to this shoot have been changes the majority of our club felt might improve the attendance, fun, and competitive experience. We know we can't make everyone happy but we still try. The Modern Traditional Class is something we thought might improve attendance. We know there a a number of shooters that shoot ILF bows off the shelf and didn't want them to feel like they were getting put in a full blown RU / Barebow type class. We may eventually have an RU class if there is enough interest. We watch how other Traditional Shoots are ran and what classes they offer, but we are not really interested in copying what others do. There are a number of great Traditional Shoots out there to choose from, so we want to offer a very FUN, yet competitive shoot that people will come back to year after year. If anyone has any questions they can contact me through a PM here or go to our website and email me from there. Thanks and hope to see you in June!!

From: Jimbob
Date: 19-Feb-19

Please define better what is meant by

Must be shot off the shelf or an all plastic or feather stick on rest is allowed and must be attached directly to the riser.Arrow rest may not be spaced/shimmed out from sight window

Is a plain old hoyt or bear stick on rest like these still allowed in the recurve class?

From: Vaguely
Date: 12-Apr-19

Yes Tom those rests are all plastic and are allowed.

From: Vaguely
Date: 13-Apr-19

Tom, What is meant by " Arrow rest may not be spaced/shimmed out from sight window" is you may not use a foam spacer or other material to shim/space the rest out from the sight window to better achieve center shot. In the Recurve class if a shooter is shooting off the shelf he/she is only allowed a 1/8" thick side plate so we don't want a stick on rest spaced out any more than the thin self adhesive they come with. Hope this helps.

Danny, You shouldn't have a problem finding a spot Thursday or Friday. All Primative camping at the club but the Cloverdale RV Park is only a couple of miles away. 2789 E County Rd 800 S, Cloverdale, IN 46120 Phone: (765) 795-3294

That is good to know. I prefer the primitive camping and that is what I had done when I camped there before. I still think about the tire ruts during that Mud Fest year, I am 6' tall and the ruts were almost to my knees in spots that year. I think it rained around 3-4 inches in something like 2-3 hours that caused that, on that Friday. The big field parking lot was nothing but giant Hog Walla on that Saturday. Ahhh the memories, it was fun camping though. DANNY

This may be a long shot but I have a nearly brand new asbell wool zip up jacket that I believe is a size 2X. I've lost a lot of weight recently and it is too big. If anyone coming to Cloverdale has an asbell zip up or pull over jacket that is too small I would love to trade it for a size XL.

I don't remember the name of the pattern on my jacket but it's a brown pattern that would be great for hunting. I've only wore it 2 times that I can remember and that was at my daughters sporting events in the fall.

From: Witherstick

The weather was fantastic today. My wife, youngest son, and I shot the main course and practice range. It seems that the last few years have seen increasing attendance by shooters and vendors. Certainly was struggling there for a few years. The new rules likely help those who are interested in scores and such. But, I think since Cloverdale is a little pricey by comparison to such shoots as the Tennessee Classic, the incorporation of a family rate has dramatically increased family participation which is wonderful. Since my wife and I raised our children going to shoots, it is especially fun for us to see so many families. We also noticed that as with the last few years that fewer and fewer shooters actually record scores. It is a great course if not the best in the nation. It deserves a return to glory

Julia Norris shot a 235 in the selfbow class with an osage bow I repaired for her, I showed the repair in another thread.

This is what her bow looked like before I repaired it.

I would say it was a good shoot overall. Got to meet Barry Wensel, that was the highlight of the trip for me. To the drunk hillbillies that were up till 2am hootin and hollerin and cursing thank you. You really gave my son a good education of how not to behave. You degenerates should stay home next time.
