Let's see some pointy thingy's. Could be stone, bone, steel, etc. Could be a arrowhead, knife, hawk, etc. The only stipulation is YOU had to make it in 2019.

I'll start with some fun one made from glass. John

Jon it's great therapy. Hope you start making some flakes again soon.

Stoner I think Frank called it Milk Glass but he always has some name for everything. I know it was a countertop. It was probably close to inch thick and broken into pieces. Outback said it looked like Carra Glass? It knapped pretty good. Better than TV Glass. It seems stronger. Had to hit it pretty hard to get flakes to release and Edge was pretty strong. I got some other stuff to.

Bjrogg

From: TrapperKayak

Those are all exceptional - I sure whish I knew how to do that and/or had the time to learn. The one and only 'perfect' point I ever found was a knife like that one in the upper left in the pic right above stoner, but reddish in color like the next ones down, but not shiny.

Point looks like a deer slayer Brian. Can't remember Michigan regulations for stone specs. Oklahoma has a 7/8" wide minimum rule. Generally I use the 2:1 rule of thumb. John

From: Bjrogg
Date: 14-Jun-19

Hoping to get to see Stoner. Michigan use to be 7/8" minimum no barbs. They changed a couple years ago. Can't remember minimum but they did away with the no barbs. I'm thinking the mechanical broad heads had something to do with that. Bjrogg

Here's a trade point from the OJAM Conrad Memorial Knap-in 2019. We all sat around the tarp, knapped a point, drew a number from a hat. John

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 04-Jul-19

Some of it works good cooked and some works better when hydrated. The point Mike made above was right out of the water and knapped maybe 4 hour later.

I have some Texas the I am going to soak and see if it knaps better.

Did't know you are from Michigan. You look on the map and go north of Petoskey to the town of Norwood. We walked about 1 1/2 miles up the Lake Michigan beach to the rock source spot. I found about 2 gallon bucket of Petoskey stones also.

From: Stoner
Date: 04-Jul-19

Ah Petoskey stones, only a Michigander would know those. I have a bolo Petoskey stone in the shape of Michigan. Use to live in Freeland. John

From: Bjrogg
Date: 05-Jul-19

Cool points Outback. Looks like you where busy.

Nice knife Stoner. Going to have to show my buddy a picture of that one.

Jon that chert looks a lot like some of the stuff from our local quarry. It's a bit grainy here. Did Mike Cook cook it? Or is it raw? He sure does some beautiful knapping.

Bjrogg

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 05-Jul-19

Did not cook it. He knapped it hydrated right out of the lake. 40 years of knapping will help produce things like that, lol

His notching ability is amazing. I will try and post a photo of him notching points while I am driving to the rock quarry.

Knapped a point out of Norwood chert while at Flintridge this past weekend. First point since last November when my Chris got sick.

The point was knapped out of the same material as the larger rock shown. Gathered all the material at the same time. I soaked the material over night in water which made it easier to knapped. A Mike Cook trick.

So cool! when I get home I will post some of the ones I have found while on vacation in Mexico, A chirt, and an obsidean. BigMo

Well it certainly looks like you still got the touch Jon.

Not familiar with Norwood chert. Is it a petrified wood? Does Mike soak all his material overnight? Or just this stuff?

Bjrogg

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 02-Sep-19

Norwood is chert along the shores of Lake Michigan in Norwood Michigan. We went up there 3 weeks ago for a rock run. I soaked it over night. Going to have some red on that point this fall.

From: Jon Stewart
Date: 02-Sep-19

Should have read your posted better. He doesn't soak any rock he cooks. I may soak some uncooked Texas rock to see how it knaps.

From: Bjrogg
Date: 03-Sep-19

Thanks Jon. I remember your rock hunting trip up north post from a few weeks ago. Guess I didn't put the names together.

At any rate looks like you still have the touch and look forward to seeing that point again with a red tone on it.

Very nice Stoner. You need a couple chunks of cholla for handles?

From: Stoner
Date: 26-Sep-19

Thanks Jon, I have some cholla saved from AZ, just haven't figured that configuration out just yet. I also want to try pine cones.

As much as I like jaw bones and antler. Trying to use up some scrap that I just can't get myself to throw away. John

From: Bjrogg
Date: 04-Oct-19

Wow fooled me John. That looks great.

TK it is a fascinating craft. It can take awhile to figure it out. Even after I've been working at it for several years I still break points or end up with clunkers. I still find it relaxing but I have to be in the right mood. Most people say they wouldn't have the patience for it. Honestly. When I'm in the right mind set, it's very relaxing and amazing how fast time goes by.

Looks like it'd be a great place to knap 9/10 broke. I'd like to learn how to do that. I have a cousin that did the whole front of his house. In his spare time. Took him a couple years but it turned out great. He has lots of stuff in there when you really look at it 4 guitars. A sunrise. I can't even remember all the stuff that's hidden in it, but I'm jealous.

I found a piece of driftwood from my special place. Cut a couple antlers just right. I think it's gonna look something like this.

This is what I ended up with. I'm not sure but this might be my last point of 2019. I kinda screwed up my thumb trying to get a steer back in and it just hurts to much to knap right now. Oh well I'm pretty sure it'll get better in 2020. Merry Christmas everyone.

Thanks Jon, couldn't have done it without you sir. Thanks for everything. I usually don't name my knives, but this one seems to have one central thing that people seem to see in this stand. I showed it to my buddy Randy this morning. He really liked it. After awhile he was sitting there watching me work on something else and he says. I'm not trying to put it down, or take anything away from it. But sitting here looking at it it looks so cool. It kinda looks like a petrified Buffalo Turd. I had to laugh as I've had people tell me it looks like a Petrified woolly mammoths foot and a hippopotamus.lol.

I think I'm going to name it "Buffalo Chip"
