Finished tillering this bow today ,and took in the back yard, and shot it at 16 yards. 61 inches long, and 44 lbs.at 26.5 inches with 5.5 brace.Knots on the back make it iffy.If it holds up I will cut a shelf in it, leather wrap the handle, and seal it.Locust had very thin growth rings so I took a shot at making it an edge grain bow.

George, it was a quarter log that I Split to get two bows out of.The log was not taken care of, and had vertical splits that went deep into the log. The other stave I chased ,and chased and chased till I got clean wood. This one I just turned edge grain. I have made some hickory self bows the same way that turned out OK.The knots may not hold up. Only time will tell.Bob.

Looking good Bob. Only time will tell if it wants to remain a shooter.

Yeah, those knots are especially worrisome going across the limb like that. Good luck with that one.

Not going to push it. This one will be a wall hanger.I did what I wanted to do. Shot it with out breaking. Next bow good wood.

I'm wondering if a rawhide backing will help. Jawge

It is all good George. I had to remove back, and belly wood from that bow to get good tiller so I learned some things. It was a fun build.HH not to many guys build edge grain, but it works just fine.

Better keep your eyes protected, Bob. That bugger is going to blow. Too bad about the knots, the tiller looks nice.

The bow is fixed. Two layers of fiberglass cloth, and smooth on epoxy on the back. Wrapped the knots with sinew.Shot a lot of arrows out of it today, and even chronied it. 44lbs at 26 inches with a 480 gr wood arrow 145fps average.I have fixed bows like this before.Experience will always trump luck.

Nicely done, my friend. Jawge
