I have a bunch if fresh cut staves I put in my outdoor covered woodshed. What does everyone do for bug control and for how long? First year? Every year? I have years and years worth of staves. I'm in iowa.

Check out : domyownpestcontrol.com online. I use Bora-care for Powder post prevention and other bugs plus mold control. You can order online by opening a account and it ships to your door. It penetrates the life of the wood unlike Timbor and you can sand and stain over it.

Yep insecticide is a good start. But the next step is to get the bark and sapwood off, reduce them in size, and get them inside and drying as soon as possible. You could spray them again at that point for added insurance, but without the bark, sapwood, and moisture, they don't want anything to do with them.

I remove bark and sap wood. Split and reduce belly if at all possible. Make sure to seal backs and ends immediately and then seal them with at least another coat. It all has to be done sometimes and the sooner the better. Will keep bugs out. Will be less messy and will be best for drying and curing your stave. Dry them in a cool dark place for a few weeks at first then if you like they can be brought into a drier environment. Osage really likes to develop drying checks.
